Hi, i want to know if there is the posibility of using th XPERIA S for mirror link with unit Sony Mirrorlink XAV601BT

This unit is a multimedia 2 din unit for cars. i think the idea is wonderfull, but it seems it only works for Nokia Symbian devices or Samsung. the idea is great, use the USB conecction of the smartphone to reproduce the content and APPS on the multimedia screen on the car. is like the HDMI conecction we have on the xperia s, which I use to watch the smartphone on bigger size on my tv. But this is on the USB, and it also charges the battery, great. But, to resume:

it seems not working on android devices. Am I right? is there a posibilty to conect this?

thank you

I have this problem also, having the Xperia S and seeing the box for the 601BT with the Xperia Phone on it I snapped it up, installed it all and tried hooking up the mirror link and it doesn't work?!

Did a bit of googling and apparently the only android phone compatible with it is the Galaxy S III. Seems like false advertising on the box to me.

I wrote a letter to Sony asking for an explanation over 3 weeks ago now, and am yet to see any form of response, which is poor customer relations on its own.

I attempted to upgrade the firmware on the unit, which it accepted fine, but then wouldn't read my USB drive and still couldnt use MirrorLink, so had to revert back to the old firmware.

I've spoken to a few guys that have Galaxy S3 phones and they have said it is pretty poor and they're needing to develop firmware/apps for the phone to try and get it to function correctly.

It seems extremely poor that Sony would put a device like this on the market yet have no phone support for the product.

I feel the same as you do Evoke VI.

I've had my Xperia Arc S for a while now. My Audi A8 TV went offline when they switched off the analogue signal in 2012 so I replaced it recently with the Sony XAV601BT double-DIN sized car stereo. There was even a picture of my phone on the box, so I felt quite pleased with my purchase.

Can I get MirrorLink working? No. I called Xperia Support in the UK and they said that the Xperia T and Z were supported but not the Arc S. I called the car audio guys at Sony (got diverted Stateside) and the robot I spoke to claimed that my Arc S was supported.

I've updated the firmware on the car stereo but no joy. It simply beggars belief that they seem to support other manufacturer's mobile phones and not one of their own, even when they've advertised it on the product box/packaging.

John G

Hi Johan,

does it mean that even though my Xperia SP has built in MirrorLink feature I cannot effectively use it on any car units? I understand SP is a fairly new phone, so the bugs from the past should be sorted out and compatibility established for existing car units and new phones, no?

Internet is of no help so far, I wasn't able to find ONE source/example of SP+any car unit working, also the phone is not listed anywhere as compatible to anything (but also not listed as incompatible).

I thought that MirrorLink is a cross platform "app", never thought that extra software needs to be written for all phone/car unit combos.... sigh...

Please give me some insight

Thank you

NO response, no new firmware, nothing.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3, plugged it in and it WORKED.

That makes it nearly £650 outlay from my wallet in just 6 months, to get a phone that works with my Sony XAV601BT car stereo. And the phone that works is a competitor's phone. Crazy Sony logic.

Something tells me that Sony won't be offering to pay me for my effectively useless phone.

John G
