Yes, I did try the old switching ports method, but nope, it is still the same. The USB charges the phone and the phone recognised it was plugged in because it asked me if I wanted to install PC companion. Other than that nothing.

Hey guys. My daughter received her brand new Sony Xperia U/St25i today. Very excited. I tried to connect it to the PC. PC companion installed and I thought woohoo, here we go.

But no. It keeps telling me it connect detect the phone and that I need to insert the sim properly and enter the PIN (her sim isn't pin locked) and that the screen is unlocked. It is. But still no. It refuses to detect it. We use windows XP sp3, if that is at all relevant.

I've tried looking up a solution but cannot seem to find one. I would appreciate any help you guys can offer. Bear in mind, I am not that hot on technical terms so an explanation/suggestions in laymans terms would be appreciated.

Neb.

Have you tried the very simple solution just to switch USB-port on the PC? (I assume you are using USB and not WiFi/Bluetooth to connect?).

If not, get back to me and I'll have another look at it.

Alright. Next step is to open up the device manager (when having the phone connected!) by right clicking My Computer/Computer and choose 'manage'. Here you most likely have some devices marked with yellow triangles and exclamation marks. Right click these and choose uninstall. After uninstalling, remove the phone and connect it again and your computer will try to reinstall the drivers for the phone.

Disable automatic installing of PCC in phone: Settings / Xperia / Connection properties (or something like that) and uncheck "Installing PC Companion".
