That's correct. I only get the lightning bolt if I connect to a charger or via USB to a computer.

I always use original USB cables, in this case I tested using an EC600 original USB cable.

Let me know about your results after reinstalling the phone software via SUS.

Hi Sony & friends,

My Xperia P seems to be recognising all USB devices as a 'Charger'.

If I have any profiles under Smart Connect for charger, then any USB devices I attach will trigger the charger profile.

If I remove all charger based profiles under Smart Connect, all USB devices seem to work successfully, however, I still get the little 'lightning bolt' symbol on the battery in the status bar & under .Settings>Power management>Battery it says "Not charging" instead of what you would expect to be simply saying "Discharging".

The USB devices so far being, 200 mA flash drives, 100mA wireless keyboard/mouse on single receiver.

I have tried three different host mode USB cables including cheap generic cable said to be for Xperias, Nokia cable & Samsung cable. All these cables seem to be presenting identical specs in any case, ie just a dead short on ID to ground(pin 4 to pin 5). From what I find on the internet this should be the specs I'm after.

I also notice the OEM USB charge/data cable(EC-450) provided with my Xperia P is just open circuit on ID to ground pins, the charger seems to be shorting the data transmission lines(pin 2 & 3).

With Smart Connect unable to discriminate a charger from the other USB devices, I tried rolling back to Liveware & it can successfully identify a charger from other devices, triggering the correct profiles, but I still get the little 'lightning bolt' on the battery symbol on status bar.

I was just wondering, does anyone here with Xperia P or perhaps other Xperia have this experience with their USB devices/Smart Connect/etc?

Perhaps, if anybody has an official cable or dock or similar, could tell me the specs of the connections/cables/whatever?

Thanks,

Jase

I have not been able to replicate the problem you describe on my Xperia P. Could you please let me know if it remains after reinstalling the phone software using SUS?

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-info/

Cheers Johan,

it makes things a lot simpler for me now that I know I can narrow it down to the problem being unique to me.

So just clarifying with you, my phone displays the lightning bolt on the battery symbol on status bar when I connect USB device, yours definitely doesn't do this, correct?

SmartConnect will trigger charging profile for your oem charger & trigger USB storage profile when flash drive connected, when both these profiles are active in SmartConnect, correct?

I did upgrade to ICS via PC Companion over USB, so I will definitely try SUS, perhaps I will wait till I can do it on another PC besides this one I'm on now, maybe this PC is giving me grief...

I wondered whether perhaps having the USB connected & charging via PC during the update has thrown Liveware off track in my particular case, or perhaps some existing Liveware data/profiles carried over incorrectly during the SmartConnect update.

Thanks again,

Jase

edit: actually, if it's not too much trouble, could you provide any info/specs on the USB cable you're using?

Any little piece of info at all you have would be helpful.
