back up and restore app problems on ICS

I upgraded to ICS, and it came with an app called "Back up and restore" and that was great, since pc companion is terrible. But when I try to back up using Back up and restore app it says there's not enough space in internal storage, so I connect the phone via usb to my computer (and debugging, pc companion starts ... the phone and my pc both clearly recognise the connection) but the option to back up via usb is still not possible. It says "Connect your USB storage via a USB cable to enable this option" But my phone IS connected to my computer via USB cable, and the phone knows it, it's just the app doesn't recognize it. Anyone knows how to fix this?

(And I tried other back up and restore apps, but I don't like them)

what are you trying to do while connecting your phone to your PC? have you try w/ dubugging off?

USB storage means you have to connect a pen drive to your phone using an OTG cable and the backup will be stored on that pen drive. Your computer is not a usb storage. Connect a pen drive to your phone using an OTG cable and it will work for sure.

I don't have an OTC cable and besides, that is a stupid idea, what if my phone had 32 or 64 gb, and my flash drive 4 or 8 gb? Would there be no way for me to back up my phone through this app, unless I buy a flash disk of adequit size I may or may not otherwise need? Using a computer would be a simple and logical thing to do, but apparently it's not possible
