Sony makes EMMA publicly available

So basically, EMMA is Sony's mobile phone flashing app. As I understand it this is used by XDA members who flash their own Sony phones (but apparently those EMMA versions are leaked from service centres etc etc).

Sony released and made public EMMA sometime in the last 24 hours:

- Now.

Say I update my Arc S to ICS via Sony's update app (I'm still on the stock GB). And let's say that I don't like the issues present with the ICS update.

- Quentions

1). Will EMMA let me revert back to the stock GB OS?

2). Do I have to search for and download the specific GB OS or would EMMA do all that for me (using genuine non-altered OS images from Sony direct)?

3). My Arc S has the international firmware so is not network-locked. Consulting the service menu, it says ROOTING STATUS: BOOTLOADER UNLOCK ALLOWED YES. Does this mean the bootloader is already unlocked or simply imply that it is locked and I CAN unlock it?

Yeah. If it's already unlocked I'll go and update to ICS now. If not, sigh... Will have to research the BL unlocking process...

Just answered question 2 for myself; the instruction manual that came bundled with the app says that it gets its software from a dedicated (and I assume) Sony-endorsed / Sony-original-software server.

EDIT: Just answered question 3 for myself as well... At least Sony's open about all this.

Connected up my Arc S to EMMA and it says it's locked. Considering this phone has no network software / branding whatsoever (international firmware), I guess the bootloader is indeed locked hence the above is required.

...Still want the official update app to offer us a downgrade (ie, to GB if you're on ICS). That would make everything oh-so-much easier and more peace-of-mind for low-power users not keen on losing warranty...
