Brand new Xperia tipo does not switch on, no screen, red light blinking

This is a christmas present for my daughter and a HUGE disappointment.

Brand new, out of the box Xperia Tipo, never used, not tampered with in any way, completely dead screen.

I have not dropped it or did anything with it, except immediately connecting it to be charged.

I have initially fully charged the battery, for hours, it does not help. The green LED is on, so it must be fully charged.

When I press the start button, the red LED flickers, but nothing happens.

I read somewhere on the forum that you can reset it by pressing both the volume-up and start button, nothing happens.

It has a valid sim card in that works perfectly well on another phone.

If I connect the phone to a PC, the PC recognises a new device, but I do not have a driver.

I then installed "Sony PC Companion" but it cannot connect to the phone.

Any help will be appreciated. The shop will be closed over Christmas so I cannot swap it or get help there for a while now.

I have exactly the same problem with two new Xperia Tipo phones, the X-mas presents for my two daughters. It's really disappointing! Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

connect your phone to the wall charger > press and hold: power & volume up for 10 seconds > let your phone charge for 1hr > after 1hr try to turn it back on

Hi UliWooly - Thanks for trying to help !!!

Unfortunately it does not work. Red light blinks for a short time while I switch it on but nothing else happens.

As a matter of interest, I have to unplug the charger to get the red light blinking during turn-on.

If I try to switch it on while still connected to the wall charger I do not get the red light blinking.

When I unpacked the phone I plugged it into the wall charger without battery. Then tried to switch it on.

When it did not switch on I realised that the battery was still in the box and then I put the battery in.

I wonder if this could have caused the problem? Although I would assume this is a likely mistake by new users so I would think the phone should be able to handle this.

how about if you do this

remove the battery > connect your phone to the wall charger > press and hold: power for 5 seconds > put back the battery press and hold power & volume up for 10 seconds > let your phone charge for 1hr > after 1hr try to turn it back on

We had the same problem with ours this morning for we got for my daughter.

Not pleased at all.

It gives a green light off the wall charger, however its not actually charged!

Plugged it into my computer USB and no led, but after a minute or so got the red light for low battery.

Pushing the power button now brings the screen on with a charging symbol.

My theory is that the battery is so flat the wall charger doesn't have the umph to start the charging process off.

Will post again after a few hours with an update.

Thanks for your advice.

I tried everything you said but unfortunately it did not work, so I took it back to the shop I bought it from, ("D1ck Smith" in Australia) and they gave me a new one without any hassle. While in the shop I put the battery into the new one and it switched on. When I got home I charged it and it is working fine so far.

As a matter of interest I tested the battery of the phone that did not work and it read slightly over 3V.

It is a 3.7V battery so it should be higher. I wonder if it is not an issue. However, why did it indicate with a green light that the battery was charged though?

PS: "D1ck Smith" is a large shop in Australia, there is a filter that automatically sensors it because the first part is "dick".

Hi I have Tipo and want to install when you install android android 4.2.1 Install done and then turn off and turn on unwilling

neither wants it to fill not remove the battery put it wait 10 seconds or does not want to include at least shine light does not shine nor that nothing is completely dead phone please help me I can do it or not pls!
