A defect or what?

Hi all,

I'm having this problem in the accelerometer, I don't know if it's normal or really an issue because it's my first touchscreen phone and an android phone.

When playing temple run, or highway driver, or i think any game that uses the accelerometer, there's an abnormal behavior when the phone is facing downward,

(when lying in the bed, and my phone is in front of me in the air, can't explain, sorry >.< )

so the accelerometer is having issue when in this position, normally in the game, when you tilt the phone to the left, the character will also move to the left, and depends on how much you tilt the speed also change. but when in the position of lying down, instead of moving to the left when tilting to the left, it goes to the right, and no matter how much I tilt, the character only moves by a little.

So I use service test to test for the accelerometer. It shows X, Y, and Z axis (i don't know what's Z for, but I focused more on X and Y)

when I normally held the phone, screen facing up, and slightly angled towards my face/eyes. the X axis is on 0, and if I tilt the phone to the left, the X axis changes up to 6, and when to the right, it will be -6 (6 and -6 is just in my example because the value will depend on how much you tilt right?)

then when I face the screen downward, like in the position i tried to explain above.

the X axis changes to negative, when tilted to the left which is the opposite of the normal behavior, and I also notice that the value is changing slowly,

in my test, I used the same angle to compare the different situation, when I tilt in the normal position, it will gain +6 on X axis, but in the downward position it will only gain 2 to 3

is this a problem? or this is normal?

and also, when playing temple run, and texting, or just using the phone, sometimes when I tap, it is not recognize, so I have to repeat it again, I think this is a touch screen problem or issue

I really need help as soon as possible, because I still have time for replacement warranty if ever my unit is defective

there are 3 spacial dimensions despite what String theorist say so you do need Z

I used to be able to calibrate my accelerometer with Google Skyview, doesn't hurt to test it. are you testing your phone with Service Menu

ok, I test it again and observe the behavior or z-axis

when in normal position or orientation, z axis shows positive value, and x and y axis is normal even in tilting.

when in facing downward position (as explained in my first post), the z axis has a negative value, and x axis behaves abnormally like what I explained in the first post..

I'll try google skyview and see what will happen

yeah, figured that out

anyway, i tried skymap, and I don't know how to use it

but i tried some accelerometer app, and one of these app really shows the situation, there's a ball on the screen (full screen) then when you tilt the phone, the ball will move/drop to the side accordingly (left tilt = ball will fall on the left side,same to the right tilt = fall on the right side). It's like following the law of gravity

same happens when tilt upward and downward..

but if the phone is facing down, like in the position i've mentioned on my first post,

the ball will fall (or like climbing) on the opposite direction of where you tilt

left tilt = ball will go to the right side

right tilt = ball will go to the left side

and there's another problem..

i'm using a battery saver app, and there's an option that will use the light sensor of the phone,

I can't get it to work, it's saying that there's no light sensor on my device (xperia sola)

when I use service test, and test the ambient light sensor, it's working, but when I close the light sensor (the white sensor in front of the phone besides the speaker) its value does not fall to zero, it's always 3 to 6, that's the minimum value I can get, and when I open the sensor and put it on sunlight, it works normal, with high value of course.. is this a problem?
