Because Samsung dont have as many features added to their phones, e.g. facebook inside, timescape etc. I have used their phones and they have very few added things to take up memory its a lot like stock with a few extra bells and whistles. Also sony resuses code for its firmware development approach to their phones as shown with fore xample xperia x10 it was able to reuse code from later phones to get its androd 2.3.3 as i had this phone.

Wrong phone this is the ICS reference phone from google

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus-4219.php

As i said sony doesnt want to compromise on the features advertised nor does it want to dedicate a team just to write specific code for one phone, they reuse code. I had the Xperia x10 when they updated it, the reason they put that on was that they were able to reuse code from their 2011 phones. Unfortunately you have to realise the xperia arc s is already out of date in scheme of things especially when you dont have code thats efficient, unless your going to switch to a cut down version of ICS i doubt it will ever be perfect even on gingerbread it runs out of memory sometimes doing different functions. For the fanatics who dont mind cutting back on features it will be fine but for the features advertised sony wants to keep them in.

And secondly you seem to forget the Samsung is a far bigger company with far more developers and resources than Sony and can afford to spend money and resources and older phones to fully optimise. Sony has to allocate their resoureces wisely, especially for phones that are now discontinued.

I think we have a great phone and android 2.3.4 is stable and fast and ICS doesnt bring anything that benefits normal users apart from the fact they can claim they have ICS. And im sure o2 wont be the first operator to refuse the ICS release on sony devices.

Q2000? I noticed your recent activity. You talk much nonsense about us not getting JB because of poor HW. Stop doing that and let the Sony devs worry about that. On whose behalf are you talking this trash here??? BTW I am running stock ICS and I have two day battery life.

STOP MISLEADING PEOPLE! IT IS RUDE!!!

Enjoy your weekend and let us do the same!!!

Look whatever you say about ICS, it was designed around a dual core processor and 1gig a ram the Galaxy Nexus phone was the example of that and thats googles refrence design. Yes the arc can be run but with reduced capabilities of what the phone can do. I have run ICS on xperia arc s and to say its not good if it had been then o2 would have allowed the release. The graphics Hardware requirements are higher the memory requirements are higher, the Xperia arc S was designed around the gingerbread operating system thats the way you have to look at it. Fast single core CPU but lack of ram is the problem, and only way round that is to reduce many of the features built into the phone e.g. timescape, facebook inside, ant+. It may be ok for those purisst who dont like or want those features but sony made the phone and advertised those features as part of the phone so will not just be removing them to suit those that dont use them has to give the features the phone was advertised with.

Even sony said the the requirements were higher and that users had to accept lower performance for ICS.
