I have an 8 month old Xperia arc S LT18i running ICS 4.0.4, build 4.1.B.0.431, apparently the most recent version as of 30 minutes ago.

This morning it was working normally. That is everything was tickety-boo except Angry Birds would occasianlly decide not to be touch controlled anymore. This didn't impact any other programmes or Apps.

The phone was not dropped or maltreated in anyway and abourt the only sign of wear on it is the little spot of chrome worn off the 'back' button where I tend to press it with a fingernail.

All of a sudden the screen went dark. The equivalent of 10% brightness and some of the colours have gone. The screen flickers occasionally to 20%.

As an example of the colours if you take the Google logo the red and yellow letters are more or less normal though the yellow is a little orange. Blue and Green are almost indistinguisable and virtually black. When the screen becomes brighter the black can be seen to have a tinge of blue or green as appropriate.

I've tried updating (I was using ICS build 250ish) but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is hardware failure.

Take it back to your local Sony service centre for repair. You have 1-year warranty for your phone.
