We have a similar issue with a Sony Xperia S LT26i at home: it does not start up and does not seem to adequatly charge the battery. This happened after the phone happened to run out of battery.

Symptoms: when connected to USB charger or PC USB port, the led stays red for quite some time, after which it goes black and the phone it tries to start up. The attempt to start means it shows the 'SONY' logo and the goes black, after which it shows the 'SONY' logo again. This repeated ca 3 to 5 times, then the phone screen goes black and the led goes red again.

I have tried three different cell phone chargers, all of different brands with three different cables (again all different brands). Those cables + chargers can be used to charge Samsung Galaxy and HTC phones without any issues, so I consider all tested chargers and cables OK (that is, the Sony phone should charge successfully using them).

We inspected the USB port of the Sony phone, and it seem ok and contained no dirt or foreign objects/particles/stuff.

I also tried to restart the phone by pressing down power together with volume up for a long time, until first a single vibration is given followed by a series of three vibrations. Once this is done, the phone tries to start as described above (it goes ca 5 times in a loop showing the 'SONY' logo), then it goes black and have a red lid. Worth noting, a while (ca 3 minutes) after going black and having a red led, it will ignore the POWER + Volume up press.

I tried to keep Power + volume up pressed a long time so it rebooted ca 10 times (every time giving 1 + 3 vibrations). Made no difference.

I also tried to press volume down while the phone tried to restart. Only difference was that the led flashed once in green (or occasionally in blue) every time when it rebooted in it's 5 reboots in a row sequence. I also tried to keep power button pressed alone while it tried to reboot. No difference. No difference if I tried to keep power + volume down pressed while it tried to reboot.

I tried the above when connected via USB to a PC with the PC companion software from Sony up and running. The software or the PC OS never even notice that the cell phone is connected to the PC. (I don't think the phone ever get it's OS booted to a point where it talks with anything over the USB cable)

Finally, I tried the above with the SIM card removed. No difference in symptoms what so ever.

I never get the phone to the point where a charging battery symbol is seen on it's screen.

Worth noting is that neither the phone or any of the chargers get warm, so it seems like the phone battery is not even being charged for some reason. Another thought I have: is the battery broken? Is there any convenient way to check that? I get the impression that the battery can only be loaded to the point where the phone accepts the 'Power + Volume up' restart, but the battery is never loaded beyond that, causing the phone to die every time it tries to actually boot up the system beyond showing the 'SONY' button. But that is just educated guesses.

Any thoughts?

Did you hold power and volume up untill you could feel 3 continuous vibrations

If that doesn't work try to run a repair using SUS from below

emma.extranet.sonyericsson.com/update_service_setup

As this doesn't require your phone to be turned on to repair

You need to install PCC 1st then which will install drivers

www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/PC%20Companion/Sony%20PC%20Companion_2.10.094_Web.exe

Then when you connect in flashmode which is volume down then connect usb lead it should then install the driver for it thus allowing you to use SUS to run a repair

I have exact the same problem after I did reboot from recovery ...

I try different chargers and usb cables , put more than 8 hours connected on charger , but nothing happened just red led sometimes on and after it goes off ,

I try using power/volume up when pluged to charger , in this situation red led starts blinking till I left the keys...

would you please , help me to reset my xperia s in other method like if possible by a pc or ...

abouit a week ago the same happened but on that time before that I had more than 70% charged and after 4 hour had been on charged the led goes on green , and I could be able to reset the phone and put it in flash mode, but in this time I han about 6% charged buttery and when it happened I can't reset my phone more than two days...

I though in this situation the buttery wouldn't able to chrged continiusly and when connected to charger it charged and discharged simultionaly thus we couldn't turn on the phone, in my opinion if we could be able to use a turbo charger or charging the buttery on onother way it would be solved , but If we could be able to reset the phone also solve it ...

please help us
