It works and is the only one I have with a mini-USB.

There is absolutely no way I am going to run my PC without either AV or Firewall. I could try it, but only with the PC disconnected from the internet, but that would defeat the purpose. Really, with all the crap floating around out there, Sony ought to know better than suggest, let alone recommend this course of action.

As for trying another PC: not much chance of that happening.

So, things being as they are, I guess that is that.

Time to look elsewhere for something that actually works properly.

Hi,

I just bought an Xperia Arc S.

This is my first Android 'phone, (it may well be my last), and I am as yet unfamiliar with either it or the Android OS.

Yesterday, I decided to update the OS via PC Companion on my Windows PC, but met with no success.

Following PC Companion instructions, I connect the USB cable to the PC and then to the phone, which is turned on. So far so good.

However, during the checking stage, for some inexplicable reason the phone turned off and everything on the PC then hangs. I have absoutely no idea if this is normal. I doubt very much that it is, as this has happened each time I attempt the update in the manner prescribed.

On the phone itself, the version of Android is listed as 2.3.4.

But, according to PC Companion, the current version of OS is 4.0.2.A.0.6.2 ( I have no idea whether this is what is on my phone- it claims to have 2.3.4 installed), and that the new version available is 4.1.A.0.562.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
