root, backup, and update

can i root my xperia s, back up the rom, then unroot and update to ics and see if the ui is laggy and slow besides having issues with it, and if it actualy is laggy and slow root again and go back to gb via the backup i did?

ICS on the Xperia S it is not laggy at all, you can root it if you want to

i know but some handsets have issues with ics and my handset could be one of those, so can i do it the way i said it?

rooting is not going to solve any issues, if your xperia s is laggy then there's something else going on as it shouldn't lag, I have the Xperia S btw

after i back up ill update to stock ics not a custom rom so i can see and some users say that the dialer takes up to 5 secs to open and the fast capture only works 30% of the time, and as i said i will only root on gb to back up the rom not on ics

You don't need to root to create a backup of your Rom

Also you don't need to root to manually upgrade or downgrade - Rooting is for installation of custom roms and having access to the root of your phones files to uninstall the bloatware that under normal circumstances is uninstallable - Rooting also if using the right software will let you overclock your phone or in my case underclock giving much much longer battery life as I don't use mine for games

i mean i want to backup gb and i dont want to update to ics unless gb rom is backed up, so if i dont want ics ill go back to gb via cwm recovery, will it work if i root and go to cwm and backup the rom then update and if i want to go back to gb i could just restore from the backed up rom

you don't have to do all that, the only way I know to backup your firmware is with PCC/SUS and flashtool, unless you want to flash the global generic firmware.

1 & 2 ) I haven't experienced this with ICS just yet

3) wifi direct it's not available with any xperia this is not an issue

4) I've seen a user having issues with mkv but again this is an smartphone you have the market to use better movie players

5) it was never promised and this is not an issue

6) I haven't check this

7) you do NOT need taskillers or antivirus or battery apps, they create a LOT of issues.

3) very low ram? not at all, unless you have a lot of apps running and bad coded apps like taskillders, antivirus, battery apps and ram apps

you skipped 4) not all firmwares have the same preloaded apps, for the most part they can be uninstalled, or DISABLE (w/o rooting)

5) the fb app it's up to fb to update it not Sony

6) that's not quite true, that's on how you use your phone, I've seen this a lot and then the issue were apps.

you might be lucky but i want a backup incase any thing happens can it be restored from ics via cwm or something else?
