need help updating

i have recently got a new xperia st18a ray and have a friend with the same phone, however, he recently updated (with pc companion) and got a really nice layout for the phone. my phone however i just bought and updated, without the pc companion as it seems the new one does not require it? and it has only the old layout, my friend says his update is the icecream sandwich 4.0 update and i was looking for some help getting the update?

i have done a littke research and have found that their are two verions: the i and the a, is it just the i with this update?

there are two versions of ICS 4.1.B.0.587, and 4.1.B.0.431 and there are two handset of xperia RAY ST18i and ST18a,
Here ST18a is for some specific regions and ST18i for other regions, however you'll get the same android versions in both of them, and to update them you will need to update via SEUS or SONY PC COMPANION in order to get the new layout as your friend does, but it takes time for some handsets to get the update so you have to wait and check regularly for the update notification by connecting your handset on PC with updated PC companion and a broadband connection
