Common touch screen problems

I brought the phone on last sunday. (16/9/12)

Unfortunately, my phone have defective touch screen & only respond to may be 75% time of total usage.

For remainig 25% time it ignores the touch. Some times i have to tap 4-5 times for a function.

Its very irritating.

Shown to dealer & service center for the problem & they were unable to solve it.

Said they will replace the entire phone with new one.

Also noticed at service center that there were 4 Tipo phones which have similar problem to mine.

Did anyone got the same problem ?

Is there any cure without replacing the phone ?

has got my complaint which is very similar.
I think it is a major problem with these handsets then. My handset has also been given to the dealer who now says that the service center here in town is shut for the last 10 days and may re-open on Monday.
I feel quite cheated with this now.
9.5 k Rs - and we get defective pieces.
Hope we get a replacement that is a good one.
Are the moderators listening? Are they aware of many more such complaints?

I advise you to just call sony service center on its toll free number. (see your phone pack for it)

Irespective of what the dealer says, you should register a complain & take token number from them.

I am not sure but heared that if the problem is reported within 7 days of purchase, they will issue DOI document which enables replacement of complete handset. (please verify with your dealer.)

I actually got another problem. Sony has updated their online database / software which generates DOI document. After the update, they do not have many dealers name in the new database which prevent the service center to generate DOI document. you should also contact your dealer to verify that this is not the case with them also. If so, they can add their name & will solve the problems faster.

My instrument is lying in service center since 19/9/2012 waiting for Sony to update their database for generating the necessary documents for replacement.

I have given the instrument to the dealer, who is Sony authorised. He has registered a complaint online already. He has reassured me that if the handset problem cannot be corrected by a software adjustment, the handset would be replaced.
Since I got it from a Sony Authorised Dealer Outlet, I might not have major problems.

Thank you very much Amit for bringing up this issue and your guidance on taking token number/ DOI process etc.
An update on my case:
The Sony Authorised Dealer had himself logged a complaint with th service center on my behalf (luckily it was done within a week of purchase). The service center which had opened yesterday showed me the phone today - after re-loading the OS. No change. Same problems persisted. He tried to tell me things like I have to tap the center of a letter to get it right etc, which I promptly cut him short saying if I tap a wrong spot I should get a spelling mistake, not that I have to tap thrice to get the next letter on the screen.
He agreed too and then the dealer will do the rest of things of getting a DOI certificate etc and I will get a new set tomorrow he has said.

It is quite scary to think that you will be stuck with a defective piece if you report after 7 days.
The service center did not seem to have more such complaints, but this is a small town where I live.
Hope things are fine at your end.

P.S.- Was it luck at my end that I bought the set from a Sony Dealer? Would buying from any other dealer have landed me in a soup?

Got a new handset. Got a new problem.
Have put it on charger and the battery is heating up to be hot potato.

Am fed up with this Xperia experience and will never again recommend anyone to get one.

yes i heard this problem of overheating phone while charging.

check this forum you will get answers some whare.

i have still not got the new replaced handset. the second lot of phones which my dealer received was faulty. (same touch screen problem.). tipo is currently out of stock as he said. waiting for my replacement. but its really surprising & very bad that company like sony is showing such irresponsibility in changing the faulty instruments. even after writing a big mail with my difficulties with this purchase, there is no responce from customer care center. I have also mentioned my repair token numbers to them for referance which also not helped.

Even the sony experts who usually reply back on most of the post on this site seems silently watching.

I bought Xperia Tipo on 23, Sep. The touch was not working properly and the mobile response itself felt very sluggish. went to Sony Service Center and got DOA.

Now my worry is about the Mobile set itself as I met 3-4 customers with the same problem in Tipo.

I wanna ask, Can I get other mobile set (either Sony or other make) paying the Difference, from Mobile STore (from where I bought).

I am really freaking out for using the same Model. It seems like defective design or Engineering part in the Tipo itself.

I dont want to visit to the Service Center again n over,,complaining for the working of Tipo.

So is it posssible that I may pay extra (as difference of the Tipo cost) and buy other Model (may be sony or other make)

these are the words of sony customer center with whom i just talked for the same demand of geting some other costlier phone of sony itself.

They wont give you a new phone even you are ready to take higher price phone of sony.

Talk with your dealer, he may help. Because, when companies like sony behave irresponsibily after selling faulty instruments, your dealer is the only person who can help you.

My dealer offered me Miro (the next higher model for Rs 14.5k, i.e. I had to shell out 5k more), but I asked for a second Tipo whose battery was dead & a dud. Waiting for a third phone - Miro being a new model again, I am wary.

I had the same problem guys.. I bought xperia a week ago and now Im having problem with its touch screen, Ive already brought it to the service center, they just replace the board saying that there's no problem with the touch screen but with the board but still it doesnt respond accordingly.. They just told me to wait for the replacement of parts coz they dont have any stocks

Touch screen problem is common in Xperia Tipo. You can got to service centre and install touch screen caliberation. This will help you..

problem related to this sony tipo is very common i went to the service center after 2 days of purchase initially they deny to replace saying sticker on the box is little bit torn when i resist they agreed. i am unable to understand that sony gives guraantee of Mobile handset or its cartoon box.

A very common problem in sony tipo Sony mobile has to come forward and do the needful at the earliest.

frankly speaking, xperia tipo is the worst product i ever encountered with n sony has provided me with the worst kind of service a company can ever can , my touch screen problems creeped up 3-4 times within the warranty period . i took the product to the service centre n every time they kept it for a few days and then returned to me, saying the problem has been coped up. now my warranty period has expired n i am again facing the same problem n all they have got to say is .....sir may be now its a hardware issue n u will need to pay at the service centre to ge it fixed. my suggestion, never buy tipo rather try to avoid sony even......coz me...i am just fedup now.....
