Bought myself a sim free Xperia U from Amazon this week. All working fine except Wi-Fi is a complete failure so far.

From the initial setup process it wouldn't turn on, simply stating 'error' (as in the screenshot). This isn't any problem with my router as the phone will not even turn wi-fi on to scan for networks.

Tried rebooting several times and this hasn't fixed it.

Tried repairing the phone OS via PC Companion (after backing up contacts, msgs etc) and this hasn't worked either.

Any further suggestions? Otherwise I will have to try and exchange it for another unit.

Thanks.

Googled around abit more and it seems likely that I need to reload the Android WiFi driver... somehow.

http://mhotspot.com/blog/fix-for-wifi-not-starting-error-in-android-phones/

This seems to be the same problem as mine, however the code used *#*#526#*#* doesn't work in my case.

Does anyone know how I am able to force a reload of the WiFi driver? Helpful Sony forum people, please? I'd rather not go through the hassle of returning the phone unit.
