How to check data usage (if possible)

Hi there,

I recently got an Sony X10 (larger model if it helps) and have been liking it so far. I have two questions though about the phone and would appreciate any help.

My first one is, does this phone have a window/option to show me how much data I have used? I have been searching for one for a little while now and can't seem to find one. I know the iPhone has an option to view how much data you have used. I only ask simply because I have a limited data plan and am worried I may go over without noticing.

My second question is, when using the Android Market to download applications and such, does this use up data as well?

If anyone knows the answer to these questions, it would be much appreciated and thanks in advance!

Hi there. I use an app called 3g Watchdog free from the market. And yes downloading it or any app will use data so that answers the second part early on!! Back to the 3g Watchdog... you need to find out from your carrier when your refresh date is. Mine is first of month for data altho for calls/texts its in the middle of the month, basically when I started the contract. When you speak to your carrier also ask how much data you have used so far in the month and then you can adjust the settings on it so it calculates correctly for the remainder of the month you are in.

There are lots of other data counters out there, and most seem to be freebies so give it a go.

If you are worried about using too much, then make sure your polling for things like email/facebook/twitter is set to a long refresh or to never poll then you can just select refresh when you enter the app. You can also switch off your data flow too either via the menu or again an app like Data on Demand perhaps.

Just to add to what has already been said. After you have downloaded an app you can set it to warn you if you go near your data limit or if you want to restrict how much data you use.

I use Stats Application.. you can download straight from the market.

It's free and you can also set up your limits for data 3g/4g usage, call time limits, text message limits.

Like other poster said, there are just tons of apps you can use..
