Signal Drops on Xperia U?

I am experiencing signal drops with my Xperia U. It happens more so during travelling. As a result, I have to re-boot my phone at least 3-4 times a day.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

do you have an old SIM card? contact your network/carrier about their coverage

the SIM card is not a new one.. i'll contact my service provider for a new one and see if that works.

the coverage is ok.. i'm on this network for the past 9 years!

Me and a friend of mine bought Xperia U together, and we both are facing the same issue. We got the software updated, which did not fix the issue. Then we got the phone itself replaced by sony service center, and even the new phone has exact same problem.

We tried another SIM card from same service provider, and no matter which SIM it is, phone is losing network signal and does not come back unless we reboot the phone. The same SIM cards are working just fine in other phones. We are kind of lost now, and planning to take this back to service center again. The original two phones plus the two new ones we got, we have seen this issue on all the Xperia U handsets we have seen!

Also we changed the network mode to GSM only, still no luck.

I had downloaded a free app from Google Play Store by the name 'Network Signal Speed Booster' by mcstealth. With this, i have seen slight improvement in the signal strength. I do see signal drops in the 'battery use' chart, but i think this app registers you back to the network. I no longer need to reboot the phone (as of now).

Do try if this helps for you as well.

I hope the Sony officials are listening to it and would bring some fix in the next software update.

Same problem with me too. I updated the software to 6.0.B.162 through sony suite & all the problem started.Got a new 64k SIM from my service provider still no luck. This is a big disappointment.

Sony officials please do something to solve the problem.

I am also facing the same issue and I have to re-boot my phone at least 3-4 times a day eventhough GSM mode is selected.

I gave my phone to the service center for replacement.

I request Sony Xperia Support people to kindly look into this issue as this is a major issue for any mobile phone.

Initially had thought it to be a sim card problem but now i realise it it aint..

What is the solution for this??

Will local sony support centre replace the device with a new one???

Select WCDMA(preferred)/GSM mode and see if it persists. Also many times a soft reset works wonders. It did for me when I had some problems with the s/w earlier. Good Luck. Arnab.

I am also facing the same problem. I am using version B.1.564. The phone lost its signal when i am travelling in bike. It happened daily for me. Is there any solution for this? Shall i update to B.162 even then it has some major issues with the software.

Sony people please help this issue.

I bought the Sony Xperia U a couple of weeks ago, and updated the phone to 6.0.B.162. A bad decision, afterwards. To start, the software "Sony PC Companion" couldn't be worse, it constantly stops working (probably because you need a 3.6Ghz processor, which I - and together with me a lot of people - don't have !). To stop the network problems, I had to install the previous version using Flashtool (thank you Kumar.GS for your instructions !). I hope the previous version 6.0.B.1.564 works better and doesn't have the network drops.

I think it's really sad that customers need to use programs as Flashtool (probably risking their guarantee in this way) to make their cell phone work. What's the point of having a cell phone without a signal ? I might as well leave it at home in that case.

The Sony communication couldn't have been worse. I talked to customer service on "support chat". They told me that Android 2.3.7 was the problem, and that I should get 4.0 and the problem would be fixed. 4.0 isn't even available in my country (Belgium) yet. When I told her that, she said I had to do a "repair update", which didn't work either. The bug itself for me is not such a problem, the fact that Sony doesn't help their customers bothers me a lot more ! I really hope that an official statement will follow, together with a shedule for an update which fixes the network problem.

I will never again update my phone without checking this forum first, I don't trust Sony anymore. I really hope they solve the problem fast.

I am also having same issue with my new xperia u, hardly made 20 calls. not travelling or moving phone in area's with variable network coverage. It lost connectivity to network even resting on my computer table.

will sony repair the phone or replace. but something strange for me is to pay for new and get a repaired thing.

sony admins pls answer, phone not getting fault after use but discovered faulty after use.

gave my xperia u to sony service center berjaya kuala lumpur, advised 3 days at least and will be decided if repairable or replacement is needed. their attitude was really appreciable.

Okay.. I had got a new sim card (64k). I had to go to a remote location and saw that the problem is not due to a sim card (at least).

What I think is that when the phone loses a signal, it does not try to connect back. Why I am saying this is that my friends (on BB/Motorola/Samsung) complained about battery drainage (probably because the phone was searching for a signal continuously), but that was not the case with me.

So I think, there's something in the code that needs to be fixed for the phone to search for mobile networks (for a smartphone it would be better to keep an interval after which the phone searches for a signal and not continuously). This also probably explains why we have to reboot the phone to connect back to the network.

Any SONY official reading this: Please consider this when coming out with the next update.

I am also facing the same problem of signal drop. seems its a general problem with all xperia u phones.

also i dont see anyone from the sony team replying in this thread.seems they dont have a solution to this problem or worse still they are least bothered.

i think its time to say goodbye to sony.

I called Sony mobile customer support, they are aware of this issue and told me fix will be released in last week of July. As a workaround they told me to visit service centre to get software repaired.
