No camera hardware key

I just have been reading reviews of Xperia Go, I was taken aback by one detail. NO CAMERA HARDWARE KEY? but still on the review it says it can still take photos under water... how?

that wet finger thingy only works if the phone screen or your finger is damp or as it says when wet, it does not work when submerged,

theres a lot video reviews. Screen doesnt react underwater same like xperia active, but active has camera key.

The phone cannot take pictures underwater. Any reviews that claim otherwise are wrong. The touch screen will not work at all underwater, and water will even cause random touch input (in other words, if you get it wet it will press random buttons on its own).

What you have to keep in mind though is that the Go is not a waterproof phone designed for submerged use. It is a water resistance phone designed not to break if you accidentally get it wet occasionally. That said, I do think they could have put a camera button on it. I suppose maybe they intentionally chose not to in order to discourage use in water. The phone is not waterproof and can break if exposed to water for too long or with too high pressure.

@Sicis: yes, i am well aware of the limitations of the screen, and you are right, the xperia active has this key, I wonder why they removed it on the Xperia go.

@JohnSt: Xperia Go have IP67 certification, though it is not encouraged to use it underwater the certification states that it can survive 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes.

without the key, it can only take videos underwater..

That's not really what the certification is. 1 m for 30 minutes means with absolutely no movement at all of either the phone or the water, not actual use. A watch that is water resistant to 30 meters won't necessarily survive a trip to the shower, for instance. Regardless, the point is that this is not a phone designed to be used in water. You are in essence complaining that it can't do something it's not designed to do.

What is it you don't understand? The test is submersion in fresh water for 30 minutes with the bottom of the device positioned at 1 meter depth. If you start moving the device then the pressure being exerted is no longer equivalent to that of 1 m submersion. Moving water also changes the pressure. Try sticking your finger into a cup of stationary water, then holding it under the tap, then in front of the nozzle of a pressure washer. Feel the difference? The first test will get your finger wet, the third test will injure you.

john what you are forgetting is that inorder for it it to recieve a ip 67 rating is that it should also pass all the other ip tests before it,including the ip 57;test which is "powerful water jests at all directions on the device, at 100 liters a minute at 100 kpa for 3 minutes". which is effectively 8 pressure washers on it for 3 minutes.

the go is completely sealed , the rubber linning cannot be desturbed like other water resistant phones. then there is the additional back cover which reduces pressure on the rubber seals.

the weak points are the ports imo.

heck the go is said to be more resistant than the active and sony showed people surfing with the active, in their promo.

that is well over 1m of pressure on the phone when you combine the act of fallling in the water with the waves.

both Xperia Active and Go have the same certification.
