I have tried several custom ROMs on the X8 (same as W8-different branding) including ROMs based on 2.1, 2.2, 2.3. Out of all of these ROMs 2.1 ran the smoothest (I am being honest)-it's market was fast, it felt stable and ran smoothly. So I am fine with Sony Ericsson's decision now. But the only issue is that 2.1 is outdated and lacks features-so now I use 2.2 (CyanogenMod6) which runs well but doesn't feel as stable as 2.1 stock. This is just my opinion off of my experience.

EDIT: I used these ROMs on the stock SE kernel.

Message was edited by: ShinOrochiX

Hey i have w8 which is 2011 phone. When i bought from the market they told me your phone will update. But untill now no update.I tried every custom rom and also different kernels, but till now i dont find any stable rom like 2.1 .But i must say that, when developers can make 2.2/2.3 rom and even 4.0.4/4.1.1 roms ,why sony can't make even froyo rom for x8/w8. Even htc wildfire has 2.1 which is also updated to 2.2.They say user experience will not good , developers have prove that 2.2 can run smoothly on x8, only few problems are there which can be fix. I think sony should ask us whether they want 2.2/2.3 or not? They should do voting. It was biggest mistake of my life that i brought sony w8,now nothing can be done.Only just wait if someone looks for our interest. I am sony's fan ,but this w8 phone was big disappointment.Even sony w8 phone is not available on the main website. It was better that next time i must buy htc or samsung phones.I THINK SO ,SONY 2010 CUSTOMERS ARE SO MANY.YET THEY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR OUR INTEREST.

You have answered the question by yourself. User experience won't be good. I'm sorry that you are disappointed, but this phone will not get any more updates.
