Hi Sony,

I have some weird problem with my Xperia U. If I receive a call while listening to music through earphone, phone will only vibrate. Nothing is heard through the earphone. After receiving the call, call timer display will come start after 4-5 seconds. Now, nothing is audible. I removed the earphone, then also loudspeaker both front and back is not working. After disconnecting the call, I played the music, but nothing is audible I received a call without earphone plugged in, loudspeaker totally stopped working Only way to set it right is to restart the phone!!!

Please let me know whether this is a software issue or hardware issue. If hardware issue, guide me to get a replacement. If software, fix it ASAP.

This should be fixed soon.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems Adi. I currently use the Xperia U and I don't experience any of these problems. Are you using the earphones which came with the handset or are they third party?

Have you tried repairing the software in the handset through PC Companion to see if this makes any difference?

I am using the one received in thr box.

Now I made a call and pressed on loudspeaker to activate it. All of a sudden I hear one sound like zrr.... rzrrrrrr.....zzrrrr.....like a drilling machine

something is wrong

I received a call while earphone plugged in. Thats it... loudspeaker is dead now and some sound of drilling machine....

pls help

If this is any sort of hardware issue, let me know immediately and how should I get a replacement ?

We wouldn't be able to confirm whether this is hardware or software at this stage. Try updating the software and see if that corrects the issue for you. If it does not correct the issue, I would suggest that you contact the store which sold you the handset.

I'm facing the same problem since i've bought the phone! Whenever I'm listenng to music with my earplugs on and I recieve a call in between, then everything goes mute. If i recieve the call, then nothing is audible and it automatically gets disconnected in 4-5 secs. As rightly said by Adi, nothing works after that...like music and volume related things. Restarting the phone solves the issue.

I found only one solution to this is to take pre-caution abt it. I usually connect the earphone and dial any no. at the beginning before I play music. then whichever call i recieve, i'm able to answer it.

But it doesn't solve the main issue. Pls help me out from this.

could a mix match be an issue? as the earphones we get along has sony ericsson tag to it, and the phone is of "sony" and though behind the xperia u its having sony ericsson logo?!

though the earphones are only able work in xperia u, as i plugged them in my arc s and it said heaset not supported...

i don't know but it has speaker issue, now this issue... dunno what more!

Its a very serious problem. When trying to make a phone call after the specker went off, some "android.phone" process asked for 'Force close' and now dial pad is also not responding. No other keys are responding. I only have to remove the battery and bring it back

Why Sony released the phone with this kind of serious issue? Should have tested properly before releasing

Now, is this a s/w issue or h/w issue? I have the latest s/w update from Sony

I have contacted sony service center here in Bangalore through phone, as per they say, its a very looooooooooong process to check whether the problem is in s/w or h/w as they need to reinstall the s/w to the phone

And if it found as h/w problem, they need to send it to Chennai for futher process(?? just making customer wait, damn) and it will take another one week

Why Sony? why r u doing this ?

Hi Aimee,

I have done some testing on my device. Just to know when actually the problem appears. This may help to your development/testing team to reproduce the issue reported.

Try to reproduce the issue doing as explained below:

You restart/start your phone. You receive a call(without earphone, even a missed call which uses loudspeaker). Now, plugin the earphone, play the music. Now you receive a call. Thats it!!! your all audio outputs are dead now. Also, at this situation, remove earphone and make a call. Turn on the loud speaker, you hear noise. Turn off the loud speaker, there will be some weird sound, like a drilling machine. This noise will be there until your phone COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN.

Again, restart the phone. Plugin earphone, you receive a call or make a call. It's working fine, no issues. Play the music-pause-play, again receive/make call, phone is working fine(REMEMBER EARPHONE IS STILL PLUGGED IN).

Now, remove the earphone, make/receive a call(even a missed call is enough!!!). At his particular time, the call has to be answered, if not answered, turn on the loud speaker, just to use the loud speaker output. Plugin the earphone, play the music. It all starts now!!. You get a call now, oops!! your audio output devices are dead now!!!. ONLY WAY IS RESTART YOUR PHONE.

Using the loud speaker to play the music loud, will not cause this issue. It happens only when a voice call is received/made by the phone.

This issue may also depend on the battery charge level, as I was not able to reproduce in low battery level!!!

I guess, there some bug in the s/w development. Something is going wrong, may be something is set or not set, when a make/receive a call with/without earphone. It doesn't seems to be a hardware issue, but, Sony please confirm from your side about this. If it's turned to be a hardware issue, then it's going to blow!!! and it will be the big failure of the NXT series phones and we may have to assume some compromises from Sony to reduce the cost of the phone. I request Sony team to confirm the issue.

Sony development team may have to look into, what is happening when earphone is plugged in with respect to voice call feature and the music player.

This may need a small fix, but VERY ESSENTIIAL, AS IT IS EFFECTING THE BASIC VOICE CALL FEATURE of the phone. Also, this requires a restart of the phone

For all the owners of Xperia U(try to reproduce this issue) once you plugin the earphone remember to make a call before you play the music. Please update your findings or any other solutions you found.

Thanks to ISUMIT for inputs on what precautions needs to be taken to avoid this problem.

I also have a problem that my phone is extremely slow.It takes about 3 minutes to load the app drawer from the home screen after I close any app.

So, nobody else other than those reported here has this issue ? Strange!!!! or no one has tried to reproduce!!!!

I could see many bugs being reported on Xperia U in this forum.

All the 'U' owners better try to reproduce all or atleat very crucial bugs reported here, who knows it may also end up as a h/w issue which need a replacement.

Sony, are you sleeping ? you have not asnwered to my previous question!!! This is the 'bug' phone of the year. Yes, I am going to post some bugs I found!!!

All those out there who are planning to buy Sony mobiles, think again, you have many better options. Sony is not testing the phones properly.

Sony, you have lost many fans now... I am not gonna recomment Sony product to anyone.

It's really surprising to see no one replying!!! Wat's wrong with Sony!! Never thought there would be issues like this in Sony's Xperia Series and on top of that never thought Sony wouldn't respond to the issues faced by the customers...!!!

Really, it's a SHOCKER and yeah, I must say... Sony, u've lost a fan in ME, at least.
