hmmm...I havent seen any saving on battery with adw but then I did put it on after I made other changes.

the great thing about adw is that it frees up the desktop with up to 7 screens to scroll past and a preview function that shows the screens

in minature on the home screen and you can pick the one you want at random rather than scrolling left or right past every screen to get to the 7th one for example.

other advantages are the 2 most common programs default to the bottom of each desktop.

and it alows transparency of the programs list

and it allows collumn and rows of the programs menu to be increased

and it allows customization and animation of the screens...there are so many options it takes a while before you see the full

features of this highly improved way to acces your xperia.

I kept finding new things days later...

but you see and let me know what you think...cheers..

Application setcpu.apk

reason

Most of your battery is spent when your phone is idle in your pocket because most of the time it is idle yes ??

and during this time its cpu is buzzing at full speed...polling polling ...waiting waiting...

you can check this with the setcpu from market..right now, while you have the phone as it is. just download from market and start.

Now...setcpu needs you to have root access to change the cpu speed....but it still works in read mode if you dont have root access, you just cant change anything.

The idea is this

if you can make your cpu run very slowly when the phone screen is off then you will save lots of battery time.

and if you make it run slowly when you are charging, then you will charge it quicker than when its buzzing at full speed doing nothing.

Roughly how

to slow down the processor you have to get full access to your phone using a 3 step process on the xda developers forum.

if you have this, then you can extend your batterylife to at least double.

search for R2BA024 update on the xda developers forum

and when you've done the steps in there....install setcpu.

I thought so too...but then I read that the rooting for xperia is not the same level of rooting that has been done for other phones.

apparently the fact that we've managed to put the minor upgrades on...but stay at 1.6 is due to the fact that the bootloader has not been cracked for the xperia yet.

and the bootloader trangression is the one that will void the warranty.

so..if you've gained root access but not stuffed around witht he bootloader, then the warranty remains intact..

of course that's what I've read on the forums...

Not doubting you but rumors on forums are best taken with a huge handful of salt. They are not always tustworthy, and if you manage to brick your device or void the warranty, no one will be there to stop you from falling into deep troubled waters.

I shared your concerns and took a whole weekend to very carefully learn all the ins and outs.

In the end it took me three or four tries before I got the job done.

I knew that the rewards for rooting the phone were sizable and persuaded me to go for it despite being a naturally cautious person.

I too worried about 'bricking' my phone but I also had faith that the process was one that had been done time and time again.

I held my breath as I first tried to connect the xperia in flash mode and run step 1. It failed.

then it failed again...

My phone was okay thank god as nothing had been done, but I pressed on knowing that the rewards were worth any risks.

so that night I thought about what I had tried and determined to try again next day.

well by the sunday afternoon I got it to work...and I was wrapped.

I still did not quite understand the advantages of what I had done but I know that root access to a linux based system allows you to do much more in concept.

I see no reason why we cannot have administrator access to our own phones....we do with our laptops and desktops...why not our phones.

The question on warranty was a mute point for me because I had used SE phones in the past as well as samsung and lg and never had to claim warranty.

so...its highly unlikely that I'd need it ...especially as I'd been using the phone for a few weeks and it was certainly stable.

In any event, it was nice to see a post about warranty not being lost over a root that leaves the bootloader alone.
