The HDMI port on the phone is an output. It connects to a computer screen or a TV, same as on a computer. I truly hope you haven't damaged your phone and computer by connecting them through HDMI, because that's not how they're intended to be used.

i think we are talking about diferent things.

there's no damage. i know it's an output one, i'm triyng to view the phone screen on the monitor that all, it;s the same thing with a computer screen. the dorid x from motorola can do this by using an app called xternal display.

That is not a laptop screen. It's looks like a TV with HDMI input. Any computer monitor would suffice as long as it has a HDMI port. To do what you want to do, root your phone and install a VNC server on it. Then connect to it from a computer with a VNC client.

The only way you can connect your phone to a laptop screen without going via the computer, is disassemble the laptop, buy a suitable HDMI-LVDS converter, and connect it. But then you've essentially built a computer monitor..

why should'nt it work? the laptop has a HDMI input, the phone has a HDMI output. I'm curently using the usb cable, but because of the big amoount of data, files, picture (almost 20 gb) the loading time is big, it's seems more quick this way, and plus this is what they were made for.

Sorry, mate, but what they're all hinting at is that it's the external display that acts as input here: your laptop's graphics card renders a frame, it sends it to your laptop's video outputs (HDMI being one of those), this image gets transferred to a display device (which receives it as an input) and gets displayed. Your monitor, for instance, doesn't produce any images on its own, it only displays what it being sent to it (e.g. by your laptop) - and you use your laptop's HDMI port exactly for that, to output something for other devices to display.

Now, your phone's HDMI port works exactly the same way: it outputs whatever it is you see on your phone's screen (so that you can hook your phone up to a TV and enjoy Android in its full HD glory), and it's not meant to receive any signal.

So that's why there's no point in connecting your laptop's HDMI to that of your phone: they both are trying to transmit their own signal to some external display, but neither can act as such. Well, not by using conventional means, anyway.
