Xperia ray WIFI connectivity problem

I have xperia ray.

when i connect to wifi it shows connected but there is no internet access.

the router works properly on other devices.

what to do??

Yes sir i did check it before posting the query.

I even tried all what that was given, even updated the router firmware, but still no positive result.

The problem does not occur everytime,it happens randomly like i used wifi perfectly for sometime but when i reconnect there is no internet access.

My android version is 2.3.4 and build number 4.0.2.A.0.62 (if needed)

the problem is with Android 3.2 when we use the Dynamic IP assigned by the router. details in the link below -

the resolution. set up a static IP on your android phone. how to do that...

first you would need the IP, Subnetmask and default gateway. If you have a PC that is connected to the same router. you could get that by following the steps mentioned in the following link

Once you have these details -

1.) go to settings>wireless options>wifi settings

2.) now click on the menu button

3.) go to "Advance options"

4.) cick on set up Static IP address

NOTE: the steps below here are per wifi specific (you would have got these details from your Pc by following the above link)

5.) enter IP as 192.168.1.10

6.) enter subset mask : 255.255.255.0

7.) default gateway :192.168.1.1

Hey thanks for the help now the wifi connects properly without any problem..

one more query do i need to use static ip everytime or can i switch to dynamic ip if using other router ??

i have tried the static IP aswell. but the result is the same. no access.

i am providing the IP address that i had issued while using stating IP.

ip addess: 192.168.0.100 --- (this IP i got from router, it was showing this IP against this device)

gateway: 192.168.0.1 -- (router's IP)

netmask:255.255.255.0

DNS 1 : 192.168.0.1

DNS 2 : 192.168.0.1

let me know , if it is right way to do or not!

can you plz tell me about the camera quality?

The camera quality is not as expected of a 8MP camera.

The size if images is around 1 mb while other 8mp have it around 2-3md and the ISO is as high as 500-600 while others have it as 100-200.

Is there any solution to this??

appu2112 - no probs mate... happy to help as I too struggled with the Wifi access and did quite a bit of research. Updated my ray with ICS on 23rd Apr and there is no need to have static IP settings. The Wifi issue stands resolved with ICS upgrade.

I am also not impressed with the camera quality but have not got a chance to play around with the settings do not use Camera much would let you know if I find something out.

On my Ray, this problem appears after the ICS update, but the static ip workaround doesn't fix the problem.

Does any other user have this wifi problem with ICS ?

I had the same problem. Immediately after ICS upgrade, it was OK. Then it would not connect. Watching the attempts to connect in the WiFi settings, it kept cycling round "connecting .... secure network .... connecting" very quickly. Although skeptical about it, I tried the static IP but it did not work. When I reset the router, it connected OK. I am not confident that this is a permanent fix, though.

I just updated my Ray last night and i ran across this problem. this is the reason why im here to check if there's any cure. before my update wifi on my ray works very fine bouncing from different open networks since i go to different places a lot. now my ray doesnt stay connected. especially when i open applications, suddenly the wifi icon is gone and connection is lost. even when im trying to open sony websites or do account syncs or do google search. well any apps that uses wifi actually. its frustrating since i do lots of stuff with my ray using wifi.

im not much of a techie so the whole static ip means a lot of work to do and at the same time im bouncing from one place to another so im not sure if itll work for me since im using different networks.

i really dont have any problem with wifi or bluetooth before ics.

i hope theyll fix this soon.:smileysad:

also, its taking up a lot of my batt since it's connecting and disconnecting.

hey

the static ip does not mean a lot of work its very simple.

just go through the answer and it takes hardly 2 min to set the static ip.

if the problem is still not resolved try updating the router firmware and the time.

Mine too, does cycle between saving... connecting and whatever. Static does not help.

Someone will probably blame my Dlink router, and I'm not buying Dlink again, but I'm also not buying Sony(Ericsson) again, for their phones are the only ones that have trouble (even other Android phones in my household work reliably).

I'm so sick of this.

Indeed : after a router reset (the WMM option disabled), my Ray WiFi seems to work fine...

Thanks for the tip - I'll disable WMM and see if that makes any difference. It very well might, Android in general and SE in particular have shown not to be well-behaved wifi citizens...

Update: No, that did not fix the problem. The only thing that seems to work for a temporary fix is to reboot the phone.
