It's funny because you really try NOT to deal with this problem.

There are more than one thread about this topic on the Sony forum. And Sony does absolutely nothing !

Everybody knows the following 2 things :

1. No proxy settings are available for Android. This incredible limitation (specially on pro networks) is well known SINCE 2008 (see google issue 1273). And Google does no react !

2. For a smartphone user, there's no other solution than ROOT his phone to install some market application to solve that problem. But again, as everyone knows, this can break your phone and your WARRANTY at the same thime. So try this at your own risk...

So, there are only 2 solutions :

1. Either the limitation is solved with ICS 4.0 (but Sony support was not even able to confirm me this...).

2. Either Sony implements a work around in the next release (like Samsung does) to help their customer (no answer either from support on this 2nd point).

Anyway, Sony should really consider providing a solution in a next release instead of delivering new commercial apps no one asked for and that can't be removed from the phone !

That's a quick answer !

I already had a look to this LeChuck work (see his blog).

3 things :

- This app does NOT work for Xperia mini (read first and only comment). So I guess, it doesn't work either on other xperia phones.

- The description is also clear. This should (theoretically) solve ONLY web acces for browser. Not for other apps that need to have internet access. How sad... most of them need to...

- The only supported configuration is HTTP proxy (not the classical PAC file for example...).

The funny thing is that I have a colleague with a HP smartphone. A perfectly unknown one that runs HP 'Web OS', UNIX-based I suppose.

Not only has he NO problem to access our WIFI pro network, but he does not have to specify any proxy setting at all ! Yes, you did read correctly !

This perfecly unknown WebOS does the configuration by itself.

Thinking about it, it's quite normal because users should not have to care about technical details.

They should only provide the requested password...

So, considering that Android is also Unix/Linux based, I suppose it should theoretically be possible for Google or Sony to provide such a transparent, smart and elegant solution as well...

1. Goto SETTINGS

2. Click on "Wi-fi" and u wil get the list of possible networks available to choose from.

3. Click on the one u want to connect and if its a protected network it wil ask for authentication.

4. In the pop-up u wil notice a checkbox (probably the last one) named "Show Advanced Options".

5. It wil get checked and the pop-up will be extended displaying the proxy settings(marked as none), and IT settings (marked as DHCP for me).

6. Click on proxy settings and u can configure it as per your needs.

P.S. Am using ICS.
