I have a problem. I need to switch On the Proximity sensor. The Service test shows that it is OFF. Can you please let me know how to switch it On? This problem is after I got the touch screen replaced from a local shop here. Please let me know as soon as possible.

1. Why do you want to change its settings?

Proximity sensor on Xperia is used to disable the touch screen while on a call. This is done to prevent launching of functions like mute, loudspeaker etc accidentally. So while on a call, when you take the phone near to your face the proximity sensor is switched on and the touch screen becomes irresponsive. There is no other way that you can utilize the proximity sensor of the phone.

2. To disable message notifications

In case you are using Android 2.1 then, launch the message application. Click on the menu button. On the resulting menu tap on settings and uncheck notification option.

In case of Android 1.6 go to Settings> Sony Ericsson> Message settings and uncheck notifications.
