Apple is lacking an MTP implementation, don't use lame sony software, this worked for me (so long as all you want to do is transfer files you'll be fine)

I know Apple get a lot of slating in the android world. But with my old iPhone 3GS I could put it in the dock, and it would sync. No brainer.

I love this ray, its a wonderful, small fast phone and with a 32gb SD card its a great media player. But seriously SE, fix Sony Bridge. If I want to use MTP mode, and for updates I have to apparently, then I get an approximate 2% success rate in getting Sony Bridge to recognise the phone. Thats a hell of a lot of extra wear and tear on the phone USB port.

its also SLOW. I gave up trying to use Bridge Sync. BUT the beauty of bridge sync is in transferring iTunes playlists. My paylists often have one or two tracks from a variety of albums. Syncing a playlist means I don't have to hunt and peck through a bunch of folders to pick out one or two songs at a time from each album....

SB often balloons processor time to 100% usage, and often falls over, so I had to sync a 25gb playlist 200 mb at a time. and did I mention it is SLOW. OK I've got aslower Class 4 SD card, but even so often SB just sits thee doing nothing.

Sony - I love this phone, but the software is VERY frustrating. Having to continually clear the MTPAPP data , reinstalling Sony Bridge etc is tiresome. Love or hate the iTunes/iPhone infrastructure - it largely works.

I went for a Ray as money is tight at the moment and the reviews of the phone praised it, and the software. Obviously no one reviewing it tried syncing with a mac! Anyone else with a mac got any tips for stopping me going insane 😉

Bridge Version - 2.2 (Newest)

Phone SW - ST18 / 2.3.4/ Build 4.0.2.A0.62

Mac - Lion 10.7.3 / 3.06Ghz iMac with 4gb of ram

Phone plugged direct into mac - i.e no hub in way

1) Often the phone doesn't give the 'connected in MTP mode' notification if plugged in, so may be a 'talking'issue between phone and software

2) often takes a few attempts to get the phone to connect - sometimes 4, occasionally 10

3) Johann - one issue I would like to feed to the developers is to pass logging info to the Console as it seems the logging info is encrypted in .enclog files - if Bridge passed info direct into Console it would mean it would be a lot easier to debug issues as one could watch the connection take place in real time so to speak.

4) sync is now working to a point, BUT it can be slow to read the phone. If I want to add a single track to a playlist and then sync the changes, if often takes a while for the phone to tell bridge what playlists it has

Tell you the truth - if Bridge were more reliable you'd have a really good foot in the door on the Mac side as the ability to sync direct from iTunes, realtively seamlessly, is a big selling point. Much as I think iTunes itself needs a tune up, its great to be able to create a playlist and add it to my phone. Its close to the 'integrated' experience!
