Sony Experia S GPS problems

I have serious problems with my gps on my experia s,

it keeps loosing the gps when i use the navigation and will not pick the gps up again,

it constantly says searching for gps.

I have to turn the phone off and then back on again to get the gps again.

Took the phone back to the three store where i purchased it from and was given a replacement phone.

This had the same problem from day one.

Took that one back but they didn't want to know and were very unhelpful.

Would be interesting to know if anybody else has the same problem as i am taking legal advice.

I use the phone for my job as a driver and so use the navigation every day while at work.

My solicitor says that the the phone is not fit for purpose and i need to take Proceedings against three

Which software build number do you have in your phone?

Have you checked if the phone is running the latest available software?

...you will see that we have fixed a GPS problem (that sounds very much like the one you're having) in the software 6.0.A.3.67.

Since you bought the phone from Three I'm guessing your phone's software is Three branded. The .67 update has been out for some time for generic devices but I do not know for sure if Three branded phones can be updated to it or not.

Download PC Companion, install the program and connect your phone with the USB cable. If there's a new software available, the program will let you know.

Thanks for your reply Markus,

I have downloaded PC Companion and it says my phone is up to date.

Also if i go into my phone settings-About phone-Software update, it says i have the latest available application/system updates.

So it looks like this is an issue with the Three company.

You are running a software version on which we did have a GPS problem.

We do have a fix for this on the newer software. Clearly it's not yet available for Three users since you cannot update.

That's the situation now.

It's quite common that branded software versions tend to become available later than the generic ones (due to testing/approval processes involving the operator).

I cannot tell when it will become available. I suggest you call the regional Sony support office (where do you live?) and see what they to say about this. They might know more about the availability on the Three software.

I have the exact same phone as you on three with the same build. The update is today!!!! My phone has just been updated so cross fingers the GPS issue will be in the past.

Hi Markus,

I am currently in a building so cannot check the GPS problem yet but the update went fine.

What I think would be fair to Sony would be that there has been a lot of upset from many Sony Experia S customers about this GPS issue and that the delays have not been due to Sony but to the actual phone operators such as Three. Sony addressed this issue with new builds but the phone companies did not push this out soon enough or for that matter acknowledge anything about the problem. Three for example said they did not know of any issues which is hard to comprehend since you only have to go online to find out there is a problem.

I'll post an update regarding my GPS.

OK good news GPS is now holding. I like my phone now and will keep it! To those who have not had an update here in the UK I would remind your provider that under the Sale of Goods Act you can have a full refund if you are sold a product that is either not fit for purpose and/or has an inherent fault. Hopefully, the problem in the UK was just with Three. I am unsure about Orange, Vodafone and O2 and hope the guys with phones on these networks are ok.

common that branded ones get them after generic ???? branded tmobile and orange have the .73 update but the generic one is nowhere to be seen and no updates from sony as to when it will be abvailable ?? unless you can supply us with any information ?
