I have been using the phone all day trying everything to get my headphones working. Downloading programs from the marketplace etc looking at setting but nothings worked. After more research on this forum i have found out the 3.5 mm headphone jack that is on this phone is not a industry standard one and nothing will work unless you get a adapter or a better sony headset (nobody elses). With all the other problems i am having with this handset (screen attracting lots of dust, bottom buttons on the phone dont react very well to my touchs) my phone is now back in its box and ready to go back to the shop tommorrow.

Hi, for Xperia 2012 family, new headset standard is implemented, therefore you need to use a CTIA standard headset for the Xperia S.

This is compatible, http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/accessories/smart-headset/

I did find a app on android marketplace that kind of fixed the problem. Its called htc headset fix. Its a widget put it on you homescreen and activate it. This at least lets you listen to your music but the controls and microphone dont work. This kind of proves it could be a hardware and software problem on the phone. Maybe one day someone will create a app that fixes the problem completly.

hey guys, i hace the same prob, after some online search, i find out a easy way to solve this prob,

1. install a free app called Headset Icon (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devandroid.headseticon)

2.hold the pause button (middle button) of ur Monster headset

3. insert the headset into the headphone jack

4. the logo of beats, or Monster should be on upper left corner.

5. release the pause button

DONE!!

But, it's amazing 'cause this headset is "normally" compatible! It uses CTIA like the Xperia S so does the iPhone...

Maybe an upgrade is needed! I think a lot of headsets won't work... All CTIA headsets? 😕

What do you think about that @Johan-SonyXperiaSupport?

So I downloaded the headset icon and when i connected, it detected Bose Audio. However, when I play music, it still comes from my phone's speaker instead of the headset. Any additional step/configuration required before getting it to work with Music Player? I have yet to test if the mic works. I doubt it'll work bcos if the audio is not even working, i don't think the mic is going to work either...

Hi guys,,No need of any app to fix the problem.Take your 3.5 mm headset and press the pause(middle button).Use a cellotype (or say "sticker") to make the button always pressed. Now insert it to the audio jack. This trick worked perfectly for my Xperia U.Try this and enjoy. . .
