Exactly Im also having the same problem on my Xperia mini..

Here is the pic I have taken on my Xperia mini..

The problem is when I zoom the photo the image get Pixelated.Also this one is taken with 5mpx mode.But the Image file size is just 976 Kb.. Which I suppose is not correct in 5mpx format..

Apart from Photos the Video quality is also not good..

The Noise level is too high and the quality is on par with some of my old 480p digital camera videos..

I suspect there is some problem with compression of photos and videos in my Xperia Mini..

Also I hope these Issues will soon get solved on the upcoming ICS..

Check your lens, because on this picture it looks like you might have some smudge or moist on it.

The picture quality is of course something that we always try to improve and develop, but at the moment I don't know what the future holds regarding picture quality improvements.

Yes Im aware of that..

Looks like the future for 2011 model's of Xperia's is hanging on balance for stability or visual performance in ICS..

(Too early to comment for now)

Sad to know that I also had lot's of hope in ICS..

Lets wait and watch till It comes..

Also I saw that last year on november sony releases Camera Libraries For 2011 Xperia lineups for performance improvements.

The problem is to apply that patch looks like I have to root the phone which brings the worry of losing the warranty of my phone which currently is under warranty..

Im currently waiting for answers if anybody had tried that patch and worked that magic on their phones..

Don't have any choice about the photo capture but u can use LgCamera for video recording

U can change the bitrate on this app

I think it's a hardware problem.coz none of the android applications gives me 720p hd video or 5mp images even if it is large in size.

I don't follow, what do you mean the picture it's not 5mp nor 720p? there's more than just pixels to have a great picture or video, and at the begining of the thread Nabeel pointed one of the issues, over-compressed pictures. I also believe there's something covering the camera lens, do you have a protective case? protective film? is the lens clean? have you exposed your phone to water/rain/moist?

there is a stain inside the lens.but idont know how it happened.i never noticed it before.how can i remove it?

are you certain that it is "inside" the lens? use a microfiber lens cleaning cloth if the stain is still there, you probably have to send it to Sony's repair center, but if its water damage then the warranty won't cover this.

VERY DIRTY LENS.

Also, disable image stabilization. It only makes your pictures even blurrier.

Hi,

If anyone is still having problems with the image compression problem, I suggest you try out Camera Zoom FX. It's a great camera app and has a setting to set jpeg compression level. The normal file size I would get with the stock camera app was around 500kb - 800kb, but when I used the app, it produced 1.5 - 1.8mb files. It also looked a lot sharper and the colors were more accurate.
