Accelerometer not working!

I have a Sony Xperia S.

The accelerometer does not work anymore.

I have switched on auto rotate.

I have reset the settings- it then worked for a while, and then nothing again.

I factory reset it, nothing.

When I dial the service menu (*#*#7378432#*#*) and do a service test, it says "This device does not support the function"

Can you help me please?

Have you tried a software repair using the update service application?

Yes, I tried it through the phones menu, and after that did not work I did it using PC Companion update service.

Also, whenever I launch the compass app, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then the phone restarts. I don't know if these functions have something to do with one another...?

Based on the fact that the Service menu states that this function is not even supported, and that the repair and reset didn't help, this could be a hardware issue, so you would need to take it in to a repair centre. However, someone else on this forum may have another solution.

The accelerometer started working again earlier, for some reason when I plugged the phone in to charge.

It worked for a while and then stopped again.

If my logic is right, does that not indicate that it is faulty software in stead of hardware?

I mean it is working perfectly for some time, and then suddenly stops...

Yes it could be, but if a software repair and a reset don't fix it permanently, then you may need a service engineer to have a look at it anyway.

have you fixed your problem with the accelerometer? I have exactly the same problem with yours with my Sony XPERIA acro S !! If so, just let me know how!! :smileygrin: It doesn't make sense at all !!

I am not able to figure out the issue. Initially I thought is just for me but when I read your post, I think this is something worst. Maybe software issue but I am not sure.

Please share with me a solution if you are able to figure it out.

I have the very same problem.My accelerometer just won't work.It says in the service test that the function is not supported.How is that even possible?

Buying Xperia S was one of my dream but I guess it came with a price. Well, however last night I got JB update and i was hopeful the issue would be resolved after update. But it's a waste. The performance increased greatly but the roatation issue still persist. I guess we'll need to leave with it.

@SonyModerators < I hope you are listening to this. We love the quality of Sony, however such really small and simple issue marks a dirt on your brand.

I have same problem with my Sony Xperia S
Its Accelerometer was working on Ice Cream Sandwitch (ICS)

but when i update it to Jeally Bean,

its
Accelerometer isn't working ,

I've repared it ,as well as done everything described in this web.

I think this is a issue with the release of Jeally Bean ,please resolve it.

Hi there! I've got serious problem with my Sony Xperia S. While after updating android to JB (4.1.2) my gyroscope and accelerometer stopped working without any reason. I've noticed it while I was tryin' to play some games.

I've checked my rotation settings and it's on. Is there any way to solve this problem without claimin' a warranty? Plz help

Hi.You say you entered service tests and everything appears to be ok?You could try to repair with sony update service.
