Hi,

I wanted to know if there is any way i can increase the internal memory or RAM of my phone. I have Neo V model with me.

hi @satish ram and internal memory are two different things definitely ram is random accessing memory where as internal memory is different..just like a memory card...and there's no way to increase..it...by custom...

Unfortunately there is no way to increase Internal memory of the device, as Ram is hardware based. as well as Internal memory,

So as Sanatm says its not possible.

instead of increasing internal phone memory, you can move apps to your SD card if the App permission to move is enabled. So you can have more free space for your internal phone memory.

This is how to add more Internal Memory it's a long process but its worth it

1) backup everything (Check above)

2) backup your SD card

on your PC

1) open any folder -> click on tools -> properties -> view -> show hidden files

2) mount the SD card, go to your SD card, press Ctrl + A then Ctrl C, on your desktop create a new folder, open it, then press CTRL + V

now this is where it gets AWEOME-ER

Guide to using Link2SD on your Xperia smartphone

This guide may seem lengthy, but trust us when we say it is straightforward. All steps have been documented which makes it look daunting. Read each section carefully and follow the steps outlined to install Link2SD.

1. PREPARATION
Please make sure you have completed all of the following before starting the tutorial.

On your PC:
– Install the necessary drivers for your Xperia smartphone onto your PC/laptop. The easiest way to do this is to ensure that Sony Ericsson PC Companion is installed on your PC. Once installed, connect your phone to complete the process.
– Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard onto your PC or laptop.

On your Xperia:
– Enable USB de-bugging mode: Setting –> Applications –> Development –> Tick ‘USB debugging’
– Enable the ability to install unknown apps: Setting –> Applications –> Tick ‘Unknown sources’
– Install Link2SD from Android Market onto your Xperia smartphone. It is a free download.

2. ROOT

3. BACKUP MEMORY CARD
As we will be creating a partition on your microSD memory card, make sure you create a backup just in case anything goes wrong.

a) Create a new folder on your PC and name it anything you want, such as ‘SD_Backup’

b) Connect your phone to the PC, navigate to your memory card and copy the contents to the backup folder.

4. CREATE SECONDARY PARTITION
You now need to create a secondary partition on your microSD memory card that will enable you to use Link2SD.

Note: We will use MiniTool Partition Wizard to create a secondary partition on your microSD card. This partition can be ext2, ext3, ext4 or FAT32. We will use FAT32 as it is supported on all phones and should lead to less troubleshooting later. You can use any partition manager of your choosing, but the steps below guide you through MiniTool Partition Wizard.

There is no need to wipe your memory card when going through this process, just ensure you have at least 0.5GB to 1.0GB of free space to make it worthwhile. You also do not need to use a microSD card adaptor as the process below creates the partition whilst the phone is connected to your PC.

a) Connect your handset to the PC via USB and then launch MiniTool. You should see the details pop up under ‘Disk 2′.

b) Click on the memory card under Disk 2 in MiniTool and then in the left pane, press ‘Move/Resize Partition’. On the blue bar under ‘Size and Location’, move the right arrow towards the left to create the size of the secondary partition desired. In the example below we created a secondary partition with 1018.63MB of space. This value can also be typed in manually in ‘Unallocate Space After’.

c) Once this is done you should see that your memory card is now split into two partitions under Disk 2 of MiniTool. Right click this new partition and then press ‘Create’.

If you see this pop-up below, just press ‘Yes’ to continue.

d) You should then see this ‘Create New Partition’ window. Under ‘Create As’ click Primary and then under ‘File System’ click FAT32. Leave the cluster size as default and you can assign whichever drive letter you want. Once finished press OK.

e) This should bring you back to the main MiniTool screen. Now hit the ‘Apply’ button on the top-left of the screen, denoted by a tick symbol.

This will bring up another pop-up window and will take several minutes to both resize and create the secondary partition.

If successful, you should see message below. Congratulations your card is ready to use in conjunction with Link2SD.

5. LINK2SD
This application makes it easy for users with root privileges on their phone to move applications to the SD card.

a) Open the Link2SD app on your phone. You should be greeted with the following menu, check the FAT32 option and click OK.

You will then see the Superuser Request, click ‘Allow’.

Once you see the following message, restart your phone. The app should now be ready to use.

b) To make sure everything is installed correctly. Click the Menu button and go to ‘Storage Info’. This will show you the internal memory and your two partitions on the memory card. In our case, you can see that the second partition has 1GB free.

c) Now you need to move the apps of your choice to the memory card. Click the Menu button and press ‘Multi-select’.

Choose which apps you want to move by clicking the tick box next to the app. System apps are greyed out and cannot be selected. Link2SD can only move apps that are already on the internal memory. If you have apps already on your SD card, you will need to move them back to the internal memory before you can link them with Link2SD.

If you want to move all of your apps, pressing the menu button will bring up another menu allowing you to do this.

d) Once you have chosen which apps you want to move, you then need to hit the menu button and press ‘Actions’, which will bring up the following menu. Press ‘Create Link’.

Leave all three check boxes ticked and press OK. Link2SD will now do its work and move/link the selected apps to your memory card.

Once finished, you should see that the apps you have moved have ‘Linked -> SD Card’ in red font in the Link2SD app list. Reboot your phone.

e) Congratulations your phone is now using Link2SD! You should now go to Settings by pressing the menu button and configure how you would like Link2SD to work. The main decision here is whether you want to Auto Link newly installed apps to the memory card. Given that you’ve gone through the hassle of installing Link2SD we suggest you enable Auto Link and make worrying about your internal memory a thing of the past.

I also have the same problem and I was tryin to increase the internal memory using the link2SD .I have succesfully made the partition with my memory card of 16 GB .but when I am opening the link2SD the window as you shown in the screen shot to select the file type like FAT32 is not coming it directly shows the application list.Then I tried in this way -link2Sd- settings- install location- then the failure msg shows as below

"failure

link2SD could not obtain root access

If you have root access make sure you respond allow or grand to the super user request"

In my xperia i have done all the settings as you said but still Im facing the problem can you help me to sort this out?

- Download flashtool, flash tool drivers, MT11i.....562_kernel.ftf, MT15i.......587_kernel.ftf and root-4.0.4.zip

- Unrar and install flashtool and flash tool drivers

- Copy both ...._kernel.ftf files to c:/flashtools/firmwares

- Unrar root-4.0.4.zip

- Power off your phone (you must have at least 50% battery)

- Open flash tool, click on "beam" icon and select "flash mode", in left panel select "MT11i .562 kernel" in right panel only sure that "no final verification" is checked

- Follow onscreen instructions to put your phone in flash mode (push menu button and connect usb, green led must appear)

- Once finished disconnect usb and power on your phone, a lot of force closing will appear, don't worry, go to "settings"--->"developer options"---> and mark "usb debuggin", back and go to "security" and mark "unknown sources"

- Then go back and don't worry for forcecloses as "Keyboard has stopped" and similars, go to the folder where unzipped "root-4.0.4.zip", connect usb to your phone and double click on "runme.bat", follow onscreen instructions (only "press any key to continue" two or three times) once the las "pres any key to continue" window dissapear, then power off your phone.

- Open flash tool again, click on "beam" icon ---> Flash mode and in right panel select "MT15i 587 kernel" same proccess that first, onle "no final verification" in right panel and follow onscreen instructions.

Once finished power on your phone and now you're rooted

I know that seems complicate, but is a simple process if you follow instructions step by step

An important tip is: when you installed flash tool and drivers, power off your phone and push menu button and connect usb, it's for let your computer get the drivers before the first flash, once your computer has the drivers, disconnect usb and follow the steps normally

If after entire succesful process do you want more, download "CMW5.5.0.4" unzip it and with your phone turned on connect usb to computer and run "install-cwm1.cmd", after entire process you have CWM recovery installed too, for go to recovery mode, reboot your phone and when SONY logo appears push REPEATEDLY (NO CONTINUOUSLY) the "Volume down" button, the you get on Recovery mode but be careful because you can delete all user data and wipe some things that are important.

I have a similar problem!

Recently I upgrade the Neo V to ICS. Now I have less than 50 MB in Phone memory. I don't know why. It takes 1 or 2 MB memory in phone, even if I install an app in the SD card. So I deleted all the apps from my SD Card (4GB).

As it has low memory I can't even play YouTube videos for a few minutes. At present my phone has only a few unavoidable apps like Gmail, Facebook and You Tube. I don't know how to increase the memory of the phone...

Good Aternoon!

I m Uday from Hyderabad. I m using Sony Xperia Neo L. I followed all your instructions and did well to some extent. But, after completion of partition, when i open the Link2SD and i selected FAT32, then i m not getting the Access for super user.

Its showing some error message like this: "LINK2SD COULD NOT OBTAIN ROOT ACCESS. IF YOU HAVE ROOT ACCESS MAKE SURE YOU RESPOND ALLOW 'or' 'GRANT' TO THE SUPERUSER REQUEST.

I m getting the above message and when i press ok, i get nothing.

Pls suggest how to do next.

My Xperia m is getting reboot again and again after I inserted a PARTITION SD CARD.. Mobile doesn't turn on.... Rebooting........... Only.(my mobile has rooted) please help me I need to move apps to sd card....

Thanks for the detailed explaination, it was very helpful and I followed the steps to get extra partition in my hard-disk and used Link2SD and link certain Apps.

Few Points from my side

1. For Rooting I followed the following process

In the steps mentioned , tap on ‘Boromir‘ did not work for me, so I selected the other option.

2. The Disk 2 option in MiniTool partition wizard never came for me , when I connected my PC to phone via USB (enabled fo debugging). Hence I had to get a SD Card Reader for partitioning my SD Card. Even I tried to reboot the phone in system recovery mode so I can partition my SD Card, this also did not work... In the end Partitioning via SD card reader worked fine.

3. I used the FAT32 format as mentioned in the guideline. There is one problem with that. When I tried to Link Apps like WhatsApp and Facebook to secondary SD drive, I got a following message that "Data" files using FAT32 format is unsecured, hence it will not move the data files. It recommended ext3 , ext4 format. This was a dampner, as data file in Apps like Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube keeps on growing.

Maybe I have to try the complete process now with ext3 type file format for secondary drive.

Anyway thanks a lot for the detailed description. It was my first experimentation with Android systems and I am happy that I am able to achieve some results.
