how to change basic functions such as number of rings.

I'm not a newby when it comes to technology but i find this phone difficult to use, for even the simpliest things. i'm trying to change the number of rings for an incoming phone call before the phone goes to messaging. how difficult can that be, but i can't figure it out. help frustrated in Russell, Ontario.

You have got to be kidding!!!!! I'm so sorry i bought this phone.

your suggestion didn't work. please note, i'm not using any online service. all i want to do is make the phone ring longer, so i have a chance of getting to it before it goes to messaging! this is absolutely ridiculous.

and that's exactly how it's done, remember that the amount of time a phone rings it's set by the network too

so i go to the keypad, put in your code, then what? nothing happens. should I be connected to my computer? I've just broken another nail trying to open the cover to the usb connection on the phone. is there a secret to opening that. sometimes it opens right away, other times, like now, i can't pry the thing open to save my life.l thanks.

once you dial that number it should change the time before it goes to voicemail to 30seconds

well,when i put in that code, the message i get is: call forwarding connection problem or invalid MMI code

If the above did not work you would need to speak with your current network provider as how many times you handset rings is a network defined function and not specific to your phone at all.

I too dearly, dearly wish I had not bought this infuriating phone..it reduces me to tears of frustration.

E.G. A simple thing like changing number of rings is much easier said than done.. Spent ages on phone with a Virgin guy..was given strings of digits etc to put in my phone but still failed to change number of rings. Gave up. What an earth are Sony thinking setting the deafult number of rings to just 4!! Next virgin customer service person I spoke to said it wasn't even anything to do with them and I should read my Sony manual. Fact is, I don't now care anymore who is responsible..a default setting of 4 rings is no use to anyone and how can a phone be sent out offering just that. To my mind it just shows utter contempt for users.

Also, I live in the middle of Cardiff and the Ray doesn't pick up network signal as clearly as on my old Samsung. Can only assume that is this phone though I'm sure Sony will blame my network. Combined with useless and tiresome defaults for basic functions such as no. of rings and volume I resent every second of my time that Sony have wastedas I try to get th e phone useable . I bought it for the camera but no matter how brill the technology, the whole idea of having to thump the screen to get a picture is totally mad, means I need to use both hands to take a picture, one to hold it steady as I thump the screen..what!! and.... is there a zoom function.. I can't find it.

Totally useless phone.
