Unable to Join contacts... process stops unexpectedly

Hi,

After I updated my Xperia Arc with the android version 2.3.4..I am unable to join contacts. Whenever I tap the option Join contacts it gives me error "The application Contacts(process com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".

I install and uninstalled many application so its hard to track whether any specefic one is causing the issue.I have tried rebooting the phone.But still the problem is persisting.Is there any fix for this??

first backup all your contacts..

press the menu buton in contacts and select backup.. save them to sd

then go to settings > applications > manage applications > all > contacts

then clear the data

go back to contacts , press menu button and select import contacts

then try to join..k..

Please do try the above, however if this does not work you may need to look at running a repair via PC Companion as it appears the Update did not apply correctly to the phone.

I tried export and import the join still fails and my contacts are all messed up :smileyangry:. All of them are now unjoined and i am unable to join them back its like 1300 contacts in my phone book now

sync them to gmail/google then edit them on your computer -> delete them all from your phone and sync your contacts from google

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

I just tried a thing .. when i long press on a contact and bring the menu then select the join contact option, it is failing each time..but if i go to a contact>edit>join contact it is working for 90% of the time... should i still go for running repair

I would just sync them to google and join them on your computer, it's a bit easier and faster then repair your phone, just in case it's a bug on your software

make sure to backup everything

Settings -> privacy -> Back up my data and Automatic restore should be selected

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

Hi Everyone,

Finally sorted the problem out.. i had an app "GO launcher EX" installed. I just noticed on a video that my list of options are different that what by default are there (was watching a video on Youtube for ARC.. lucky me) .. So I uninstalled the app and here I am sitting all happy :smileyblush:.

For the contact I cleared the contact storage application data and then imported the vcf again that i saved as initially suggested.For now atleast I have all the phone contacts with me :smileylaugh:.... (smile turning to grin ).

I guess i'll sync FB accounts when i am back at home in range on my wireless connection.

I did a full reset to factory settings. The phone sinhronizaroval contacts from the Internet. Unfortunately, I have not checked the operation of the contacts to install applications, but now the error appears in the same way as before. Tell me, what else can you do?

Incidentally, the list of contacts exDialer works fine, not buggy ... It would be nice if you could just disable the native contact list, replacing it exDialer-ohm.

I have about a year there was a problem with the use of "native" contact list on Sony Xperia J with Android 4.1.2 As soon as you begin to navigate the contact list, immediately fell out error
com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook process is stopped

While contact list ExDialer-a worked without any complaints . Recently decided to still deal with this glitch. Search on google did not help. Then became simply analyze the behavior, and it turned out pretty simple: as soon as the application starts to address some of those contacts that have avatars, it fell out with an error. All you had to do - find using the contact sheet ExDialer-a the contact and remove it from the photo. Such contacts buggy was quite a lot: about one third of all contacts with photo. I do not know why they can not be swallowed, but the fact on the face. Pictures themselves were once vstavlyaemy using experimental features Picasa, which seeks persons and groups.

By the way, a complete reinstall of the Android system, followed by pouring the contacts from Google did not give positive results. But the process has helped export-import contacts. If anyone has a lot of contacts, do not want to mess around, and is willing to sacrifice all your photo contacts, this option would probably be more acceptable.
