Hi

thanks for your reply, no I haven't tried my SIM card in someone else's device I've just put it back in my old Sony m4 aqua and is working fine. It's just the battery overheats and sometimes just dies but at least I can receive calls.

the guys from Sony support have said it sounds like I need to do a software repair and sent me instructions, it's just finding the time, I've only had the phone 3 days shouldn't really need to do that I think.

all the network settings are on and set up, I reset them via settings yesterday in a hope to fix it but still made no difference.

how can a new phone that's just been turned on need repairing I don't like it any way what happened to the nano coating that made it waterp resistant and scratch resistant? Why would they go backwards with a newer model.

Hi,

What is this software repair that is being referred to here please?

I have had an Xperia XA1 for 14 days nwo and have noticed that the network signal (not wifi) fluctuates wildly between -85dMB to -120dBm. This is very poor. It is very poor on train or bus transport to the point of being unusable. I can obtain -76dBm if near a network mast. I am considering returning this phone.

Sony... do you have advice please?

Thank you.

chrisk4

Hi

it's nothing to do with the SIM card or the network. It's the phone I'm taking mine back for a refund

Here is instructions they sent me for repair

Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We are sorry to hear of the issues that you are having with your Sony Xperia XA regarding the Mobile network signal.

We would suggest firstly that you try to use your SIM card in a different phone as the SIM card itself might be defected which will affect the network's signal.

If the SIM card works properly in a different handset, we would recommend that you reset your Mobile Network Settings by following these steps:

From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
Find and tap Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset.
Find and tap RESET SETTINGS.
If this reset doesn't help sort the network's signal issue, we would suggest that you try to perform a repair of the software using Xperia Companion.
If the issue is related to a problem with your software this will be repaired and your handset will work as intended.
To do this, you will need to install Xperia Companion from the Sony Xperia website,
the application is available for both OSX and Windows based systems. You can download each from the following links:
Windows/PC:
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/xperia-companion/
OSX/Mac -
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/xperia-companion-mac/
Once installed to then perform a repair on your handset’s software, please follow the
steps below, making sure that at the start of the process the device is turned off and disconnected from the computer:
1. Open Xperia Companion
2. Click Software Repair
3. Some on screen steps will now appear for you to follow. Please do not connect the
handset until you are prompted to do so.
4. When you are asked to connect the handset (still with the phone powered off) please
press and hold the key stated on screen for 30 seconds before connecting the handset and keep it held down as you connect
5. The repair process should now begin.
Please ensure your handset is not connected to your system when performing the above
as you will be instructed to connect your handset once you have followed the above steps. Your handset must also remain powered off at all times.
Please note it may be the case that user data is lost during this upgrade. We therefore
recommend backing up any data to your SIM card, Memory Stick, or system before upgrading.
Please be aware that if an update to a later version of Android has become available
for your Sony Xperia handset the new version may be installed. If this is the case you may notice some differences in the functionality of your handset when updating. All information regarding these changes can be viewed on the following link. We would recommend
reading through the following before updating:
www.sonymobile.com/gb/software

If none of the suggested solutions above sort the issue with your Sony Xperia XA's signal problem, we would lastly recommend you to contact your Network provider for further assisstance.

We hope this helps you.

The bars do not indicate better reception if they are more. And the way you're holding your phone, the angle it's positioned at, and the surrounding will always affect the strength of the signal you receive.

Do you have any problems while making or receiving calls? If you want to compare you can go to your Settings -> About phone -> Status -> SIM status -> compare numbers in "Signal strength" field. You need also to compare 2 identical phones nearly at the same place and position, because every phone may have its internal antenna in a different place inside the phone.
