I have used my new XA1 for some 2 weeks. Today I was prompted to install a new software release 48.1.A.2.21.

Should I do that ?

(Sorry if this question already has been asked somewhere else, despite my search)

Yes, in theory, you should keep your phone updated.

However, from my own experience, I deeply regret to have updated to Android 8 Oreo.

I´m confused, because my phone was already on Android 8. It was updated "automatically" when I turned it on for the first time after the purchase.

The new proposed update isn´t described or explained. It is just a string of numbers that I can´t (or want to) interpret.

So do update. You are supposed to get 'security updates' and maybe some improvements, but you'll have to discover them on your own because you will never get an explanation of what the firmware update is for.
