topic Unread message error in XA Series

Unread message error

In the messaging app, the most recent message to/from one of my contacts always shows as unread. The (1) notifications shows up on the home screen app, and in the messaging menu, even on messages I've sent to that contact. It does not go away even after viewing the message.

this is only with a specific contact or does it change?

Only one contact. Whether they are the most recent or not. I've tried manually marking it a unread/read, and it switches back to unread when I switch to a new page.
