Try using a different USB cable (not all cables are able to transfer data). Also, make sure that the latest Xperia Companion is installed as it includes the drivers for your device.

@CMDR when you connect the phone, make sure to choose File transfer on a pop up that appears on the phone's screen.

Still nothing. No pop-up ut the phone is charging.

The pop up may not appear, but if you slide dowm from the top, you should have a notification about and, if you tap in it you should be able to choose 'File transfer'

U need to become a developer & turn on USB debugging under system. Ask yr Sony dealer.

B4 I turned to developer, my XA2 Ultra can connect to PC by USB type C cable that comes with the purchase. My issue was the inability to do data transfer via USB type C storage. Developer is not the default factory mode. Guess this prevents anyone retrieving yr mobile data by USB-C data card or ask Sony the reason behind.

Go to system, about phone (bottom), build number (bottom).

Tap the bottom item a few times until u see a message that u has turned to developer.

U'll then see develop's option under system. Turn on USB debugging.

If u still can't connect to pc, try yr usb-c cable on other devices.

It states that usb debugging mode is for development purposes only. Use it to copy data between yr computer n yr device, install apps on yr device without notification and read log data (not sure if last statement involves potential risks to yr privacy or security but u can switch back after u copied data to yr pc).

Hv u tried yr usb-c cable that comes with yr phone if it works? If it doesn't, then the cable has faults. Better ask yr dealer.

Yes. I've bought and tried a new cable again but still no data connection. Only charging.

Hv u seen a notification or pop-up message regarding "action restricted: a secutity policy restricts use of USB storage", or, "android system: USB supplying power to attached device. Tap more for more options."?

Tap more n 4 options appear:-

1) charge device

2) supply power

3) transfer files

4) use device as midi

Choose transfer files. (but it's weird that option 3 doesn't work today).
