com.android.phone stopped working

"com.android.phone stopped working" constantly pops up. There is no service provider detected.

I have cleared data and cache for phone services, restart in safe mode - problem persists. Factory reset done and still have the same issue.

Please help!

I have the same problem since the update yesterday. I went to my service provider and they told me that 2 other clients had the exact same issue, the same day, without any way to fix it. They gave one of the client a new phone (same model), she came back an hour later for the same reason. Sony xperia xa1 ultra

I was just on the phone with Sony and all they suggested to download the Xperia pc companion. I told Sony tech support that scouring through different threads for different models, this did not work. They still told me to try. As a safegaurd I turned off the automatic updates for the phone and for play store and manually updated my keyboard (I did a factory reset before). The error message has not popped up but according to another thread this I saw only a temporary fix.

Since I applied the monthly android update yesterday evening (android 7, security patch level Nov 6th 2017), my sony xperia xz ultra is having this pb that seems to be common to a lot of people: com.android.phone has stopped working, looping pop-up message every sec.

I downloaded the PC companion and did a phone repair ... worked ok for ~1 hour and back to the same pb.

Now I did clean the phone app memory like was suggested in some other posts, will see how long this will last ...

Any other suggestion?

When is Oreo update coming to this phone?

I took the update a few hours ago. Had the same issue. Was just about to call my service provider but decided to restart my phone. It works now........

Put your phone into airplane mode so the pop ups will stop. On your phone settings disable the automatic updates for apps and also disable for play store. If you look on the Xperia XA1 ultra. There’s are a set of steps someone put up, it’s worth a shot but some people don’t need have success.

Same issue, factory reset done and I always get the "android.com.phone has stopped" message...

Very frustrating.

I already had a lot of trouble for the past couple of weeks with Wifi and Bluetooth that stopped responding prety much every day. I had to constantly togle airplane mode to get those to work. I was happy to see an update yesterday, hoping they would fix their mess but wow, they managed to get my new phone totally useless.

Not Impressed At All.......

I don’t know if Sony is aware that their update messed up these phones. The more people that can contact tech support at Sony the better. Been scouring online for solutions for hours.

Have same problem with xa1. Disable automatic updates on your phone and play store. I think this is a temporary fix. Contact Sony , online chat or call from another phone. Sony needs to be made aware of this issue!

Was confused after reading so many post about xz / xa ... mine is XA1 ultra too!

Disabled auto updates in google play store but how do you disable automatic update for the phone itself?

SINCE LAST PHONE UPDATE (YESTERDAY) MY PHONE IS NOT WORKING ANYMORE ! I GET THIS POPUP ALL THE TIME: com.android.phone stopped working. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING, PHONE COMPANION, FACTORY RESET ECT... AND I STILL GET THIS POPUP+I CANT MAKE CALLS ANYMORE BECAUSE THE PHONE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY SIM CARD ?

I HOPE THAT SONY WILL FIND A SOLUTION FAST BECAUSE I'M GONNA ASK FOR A REFUND AND CHANGE MY PHONE ! I AM WAITING FOR A NEW UPDATE TODAY TO FIX THIS BIG PROBLEM. THIS IS AN URGENT MATTER AND I HOPE SONY SUPPORT TAKES THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY !!!

Do you experience the same while in >>> safe mode ? Which Android version and build number is your phone running?

Also, could you repair the phone with XC > do NOT install nor update any app > test the phone in normal mode and safe mode

Same thing happened to me. The phone updated during the night, and now the com.android.phone message keeps appearing. Was working fine before. Did all that was suggested and nothing works. Hopefully there's a patch soon.

I have tried it in safe mode and the problem persists.
