Inbuilt file Explorer is not working

I am using this mob nearly ten months. It is an awesome mobile with good display of 6 inch and a very good cameras. Past few weeks I am not able to explore my sd card through the inbuilt file Explorer which ll be activated when going through storage settings. Also recently found that the inbuilt file Explorer is not working for internal storage too. Any suggestions pls. Though I use file commander an file Explorer app to view both internal and external storages. It's weired that the inbuilt Explorer is not working recently.

@JackXAUltra what do you mean by "not working"? what are you trying to do and what's happening?

This can be found in setting, storage and memory. When I click on explore the inbuilt file Explorer must come in action. It has come before and I have used it. This is the screen shot for internal storage. But for both internal and external that is sd card when I give explore it throws a msg saying "settings stopping or settings crashing" and below that I get an option to "close app". Couldn't take that particular error msg as a screen shot. Pls help

@JackXAUltra you can find that same file explorer by launching Downloads app from your app drawer and swiping from the left edge of the screen after opening it. is the file manager crashing there too?

I couldn't find downloads in my app drawer.

That's odd not to find Downloads in the Apps pages. You can not find it even if you srarch for it using the search bar at the top, in the Apps pages? It looks like you are missing basic features, which takes me to the ideea of a corrupt software, meaning you might have to "repair" the software.

Downloads is not an app that can be removed, so, normally it should be there.

Sorry it's not there. So guess I have removed it. There is a way to remove system apps using commands for nougat. Guess I did that for downloads too. Now pls some one tell me how to bring it back.

uninstalled system applications can/will come back after a factory reset

Or after "repair"

Thanks for the reply. Now my question is I have removed few apps like what's new, Google drive, Google duo, Xperia lounge etc which are system apps. That cannot be removed normally. Used a command from xda forum and did removed. But now my question is what is the relation between these apps and my inbuilt file Explorer? Does it make any sense? 🤔. OK anyhow I'll do a repair or a factory reset. Thanks 😍

@JackXAUltrathe built-in file explorer (and "Downloads" icon) is managed by an app called Documents (com.android.documentsui). it sounds like you disabled that one, too.

Thanks a lot. Yes I do remember that I disabled that thinking as a word document file. I'll try to repair or reset and make it come back. IL try this Tomo and let you know. Thanks a lot. 👍
