SMS smiley not working

Running Android 2.3.4 on Xperia Arc

when I try to add a smiley to an SMS I am able to select one from the keyboard. But when I send the message, it changes from an emoticon image to characters.

for example: changes to 🙂 when I press send.

Any ideas?

and in the conversation , after sending the text , it appears as 🙂 this only..??

they will appear as " 🙂 " only in the write message box , its normal for all xperias..

as soon as you send it , you will see the emoticon in the conversation...

hmm
