UK Xperia j wont work in Canada

Hi moved to Canada from UK and wondered why my new Xperia J wont work with a Canadian sim card any advice as phone was expensive and dont really want to buy new one cheers

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

With the information provided, I can advise that not all handsets are going to work on all networks. You may want to check the white papers for the Xperia J device you have and then clarify with the Canadian Network carrier if the frequencies the handset use work on there network.

As above but it could also be that your phone has a lock on it

Dial *#*#7378423#*#* then open Service info then SIM lock - Post results back

Hi Max1960,

The information you supplied above means the device is not locked, the device would show 5 on the network section if the device was locked.

You would also be shown a message to input a code to unlock the device when you inserted the SIM card from another network.

This sounds more like a frequency issue. I suggest using the white papers as stated above and contact the network carrier.

If your phone reads like below then your phone is locked as can be seen by [x] and cannot be unlocked even with a code as the 0 means no tries left to enter a code

[x] Network 0
[x] Network subset 0
[x] Service provider 0
[x] Corporate 0
[x] SIM 0

Now if it reads like the below then your phone is unlocked as there is no x in [ ] and the 0 means you don't need any try's to unlock as it already is

[] Network 0
[] Network subset 0
[] Service provider 0
[] Corporate 0
[] SIM 0

What is your advice then is there any way of using this phone in Canada? Can I get it unlocked? If it is a frequency problem can I change the frquency?

If you have 0's everywhere and the x,it cannot be unlocked.
