x10i 1.6 to 2.1 upgrade for dummies

Hi guys, my phone is a recent purchase and now that i'm sort of confident in navigating it I'm looking at upgrading it.Its an SE X10i, f/ware 1.6, baseband 1.1.25, kernel 2.6.29-rel semc-android@SEMC #2, build R2BA020, PAYG simlocked onto UK ORANGE.I have d/loaded PC COMPANION and it tells me that I am up to date. Thats me now at the end of my comfort zone as I am now just a (big) tad confused with rom,s, basebands, flashing etc.Is there a simple plain english tutorial that I could clue up on without any side tracking to (probably) relevant points. Ideally along the format of e.g.download this this n' that, install this here and that there,activate this with that and look out for this when doing that.My main problem is that I am in a hectic environment and I find it difficult to maintain focus on anything of a technical nature without losing my thread.Sorry for the epic, I've tried to include all details I think relevant.

On the back of the phone is a number that looks like this (####-####) can you reply with that number please? Then I can confim what the latest software is for your phone.

You've done everything right, but I'm fairly certain that version of the Xperia X10 (Orange UK) has an update, I just want to confirm.

the first think you should try Update Service

if it doesn't work try

Just watched the vid, I hope it goes as simple for me. When I tried to back up with titanium (free) it told me to get busybox !

just backup with the regular Backup & Restore app, before you flash, run a backup and then test it and also check the other methods of backup just in case something sinister happens

Thank you very much gent's, just tried SE UPDATE and it offered me an update. Phone now shows android ver. 2.3.3 bband 2.1.71 kernal ver 2.6.29-00054-g5f 01537 SEMCUser@SEMCHost#1 buid number 3.0.1.G.0.75.

Its definately up'd gents, I shall have to figure out how to navigate all over again now hehe. Next job will be to unlock and de-brand, any pointers please?.

When I have looked up flashtool etc It gives me the impression that it is only for 2.1 Dos it work with 2.3? Forgive my ignorance but I have no pc access until very late in the day (night) so can only use fone until then and its awkward to follow links etc. When I get on pc am usually too tired to be very aware of what i'm doing.

Thanks, I'll get on that tonight. Is the flashtool complete or do I need roms from elsewhere ? Forgive the third degree I'm just trying to get my head in the right gear for when I can access pc. Oh and does it go through se companion or standalone? Thanks again

You need to download two things

1) flashtool

2) firmware
