PC Companion / K800i backup bombs on Contacts, troubleshoot ?

If I try to run the phone backup process (or the backup part of the phone upgrade) PC Companion bombs out on the Contacts.

How do I get a full backup, including Contacts ?

P.S. I'd also like the option of not having to constantly check for upgrades please.

http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ PC Companion is a problematic application, judging from many complaints on this forum.I suggest you either re-instal PC suite, if you still have the original installation file (you can switch off the automatic update setting on this), or use My Phone Explorer, from the above link, to back up your phone with.This application has a lot of added advantages to PC suite/Companion such as being able to view your backed up contacts without connecting the phone and being able to restore your sms back to the phone in their original form.

Just found out that PC Companion has been updated, so make sure you have the latest version.

PC Companion needs to check that the necessary module has been installed when attempting a backup process that uses that particular module, ie. running a backup that includes contacts requires that the user has first attempted to use the contacts sync task/module first before running the backup. Currently the backup process does not check, and the backup simply fails with no indication as to why.
