Xperia V with JB fw 9.1.A.1.145 - camera freezes the phone

Hi,

I recently purchased an Xperia V , which came already with Jelly Bean.

A few hours after having the phone fully operational, an update warning said I had an OS update.

I did it via OTA and all went well. Phone has now JB fw 9.1.A.1.145 .

But there is an issue with the camera app: it randomly freezes the phone just after taking a picture or a movie.

I would say that in average, for each 3 or 4 pictures, there is a freeze: screen is frozen, back/home buttons don't work, power button to lock/unlock have extreme difficulty in getting served, phone starts heating and I can't even power down the phone (there seems to be a process loop taking all the resources). And the photo/video being taken is not saved or becomes corrupted.

So, I have to remove the battery in order to power down the phone. Wait a few secs, and I can power up the phone back to a normal state.

I'm using a Samsung Pro 32GB micro sd (class 10, UHS-I Interface) to store media, including the camera photos/movies.

Just in case, I have checked the SD card filesystem (using Windows), but there is no error being reported.

I saw some reports with similar issues (specially with JB), so there seems to be a pattern here.

when you compelete the update and reboot your phone,your phone maybe freeze in a moment,so please wait a moment before you operate your phone ,because your phone will be a little slow after the update. Phone need load the update file,so wait in a time.

In this case it sounds like there was an error in the loading of the firmware. In this case I would advise running a repair:

To repair the phone software
1.     Install PC Companion on a Windows PC from Support
2.     In PC Companion, under Support Zone and click Start.
3.     Under Phone Software Update, click Start.
4.     Click repair phone.
5.     Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hi,

When I removed the battery to be able to restart the phone, I noticed that SD card was heating a lot.

There seems to be something with this Samsung Pro 32GB (class 10, UHS-I Interface) and the phone slot. Maybe overheat leads to contacts failure and filesystem issues ?

Well, went back to a SanDisk 32GB Mobile Ultra (also class 10, UHS-I Interface) and this has not happened since. Actually, sd card access seems smoother now.

Problem seems to be solved (and no firmware repair was needed, as I suspected).

I am facing the similar issue,

Whenever i take a series of quick snaps one after another, the camera app hangs, and remains unresponsive, till i lock the phone using power key, and unlock it, happened twice with me, but still it dint needed to remove its battery.

As arturiu mentioned, home/back/recentapp keys disappeares.

Another major issue, i have observed is over heaeting of the phone while playing games.

It was ok before this latest JB fw 9.1.A.1.145, the cell used to get heated only when i used to play game(real racing 3 to be specific) while charging at the same time.

But after updating to latest fw update, its heating issue is worsening, as it heats up screen as well. so i need to keep it in-active or on standby mode.

In case if u need info, that i have updated this latest update(merely of 6mbs) using wifi.

please look into the same asap.

Is you camera saving in the sd card (as mine is) ?

Maybe it's worth to set it back to save in internal memory, just for testing purposes.

I suspect that there may be some issue with overheating and sd card. If you look at the sd card slot, it's not as tight as in other phones.

At least with the new sd card it didn't happen again (and it was quite regular).

But I still can't say that my problem is 100% gone.

Need to use the camera more often to be sure.

It was in deed a problem with the Samsung SD card (either faulty card or compatibility issues with the phone).

Since I installed the SanDisk SD card, I never got the camera issue again.

Issue solved.
