We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.

Beyond Ice Cream Sandwich we would not able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand. We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.

if your phone is locked you cant update your phone software as this might void any warranty/ contract with operator.

So I updated my phone - Xperia ion (took 5 frustrating hours of downloading PC Companion and making it detect my phone) but for some weird reason, when I check my 'About phone' section in settings, it still shows Android version 4.0.4. When I connect it to PC Companion or check for System updates, it says my phone is updated.

Can anyone help?

You may try downloading n flashing the official firmware (tft) file for your phone using the xperia flashtool.

Please check your device Xperia Ion HSPA or LTE

Download the flsahtool from http://androxyde.github.io/

Flashing guide:

Take backup of everything before starting. Contacts, sms/mms, whatsapp stuff etc

Flashing your mobile is at your own risk. Sony would be in no way responsible for any damage.

Before Flashing: If you're on original firmware ( that came with the mobile ) then dial *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer > service info > software info > take a screenshot and keep the screenshot safe for future use

download Flashtool and install it.

Go to C:/ Drive > flashtool > firmwares > delete everything present and exit

Download Official Firmwares for your device from the link

if its .rar or .zip type then extract it to get the .ftf file inside

Copy .ftf file to C:/ drive > Flashtool > Firmwares >

Now run flashtool.exe, click on the flashing icon ( left side below "file" option)

Select flashmode > ok

You'll see flashtool window similar to this

( IMPORTANT) On the very right side mark the following as shown

Select ok

Let the flashtool prepare. It will ask you to connect your mobile, follow the steps.

Note: on devices with touch navigation keys, hold volume down key instead of back button while connecting your device.

Press n hold the volume down key n insert USB into PC port. If that doesnt work then use volume up key

Once flashing's finished, it would ask you to disconnect your mobile and restart.( It may take several minutes to restart )
