Tethering error

Firmware: 6.1.1.B.1.54

I have 3G data enabled. I get the 3G/H symbol on notification bar.

If i try to tether wireless or USB , i get an error

Tethering Error

Error occured during tethering

I have reset the phone with full wipe.

I have repaired the phone using PC Companion.

But same problem persists. Please give me a solution to this.

I have two friends who have same phone and same carrier, same data plan too.

test with a different computer also do you have any taskillers or antivirus or background data traffic (on tethering)?

Why dont u update to.the new. 75 firmware. May be that would solve your issue.

I disables background data, no new apps installed.

Just finished reparing phone from a different computer.

Nothing.

Problem is when you have a XP from USA. And you are on a carrier other than T Mobile.

Solution is to flash generic firmware using flashtool.

It was because of an APN which is present by default in the USA firmware.

I wasn't able to delete or deactivate it.

not at all, if your phone was network branded that's the issue not that the USA firmware has preloaded apn settings

But my Xperia P has no branding. I got it from a dealer who buys phones from USA and sells it here in India. You can refer to this thread

perhaps he bought the phones network branded, the only thing that matters now is that your tethering works

Yup. The phones works perfectly now.

Flashing the new .75 generic firmware using flashtool does not void my warranty, right?

P.S. I haven't unlocked bootloader or rooted.

I have the same problem. I couldnt find the flashtool for xperia p. In sony website it is only specified for the following

Supported phones and flash key mappings

Xperia™ T – volume down
Xperia™ S – volume down
Xperia™ arc – back
Xperia™ arc S – back

Can u please guide me how to do this.

This issue is with any of the unlocked phones sold in the US. Xperia S, Sola, P etc. I have confirmed it with Sony devs and they will be removing the hard coded APN in a firmware update. If you flash a generic non-US firmware you don't have the tethering issue as stated. Has nothing to do with network branded or not as the XS, XP, etc are not sold network branded in the US.

Temporary Fix to this Issue:

I kinda fixed it. I went into the tmobile apn settings and changed them to match my att settings. Tethering works now, only one problem. Now when I go into the section where it shows my different apn's it says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." It doesn't really matter though since everything is working fine. I shouldn't have the need to go back in there. I figure if there's an update it will fix that.

I tried this and it works.
