Updating phone software issue

I have an issue regarding updating phone software.
I used SE PC companion version, 2.0 and connected my phone using desktop using USB cable.

However, I cannot update my phone.

Is there any alternative ways to update my phone?

My phone:

SE Mini Pro SK17i

Android 2.3.3

Build number:4.0.A.2.368

SEUS (sony ericsson Update Service) is far more reliable

Also, before you update or repair your phone make sure you backup your phone. Check my thread on how to do so

Don't forget to check the other Apps to backup your phone

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

It's weird that PC companion saying that new phone software is available while the update center is saying that my phone has the latest software. So which one I'm supposed to follow?

you can always try to re-check if there's an update

settings -> about phone -> software update

and try to check with Update Service instead of PCC

My Pc Companion Says there is a new update aswell i have the same version as you now.

A version 4.0.A.2.377 is ready to be installed it says but get a fault message when trying to upgrade

Now i updated my phone using SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).

It is successful.
PC companion does not give detailed instruction while SEUS tells you the instruction to update your phone. So, better get SEUS if you do not have it.

If you just only update your phone software without making changes with your internal data, then you might do so without doing any backups.
If you want to be safe, then go to android market to find some applications to do the backups process and save them into your computer. Check the posts above.
