Quick question, is it possible to flash the ROM to ics without unlocking the bootloader? If so would this void warranty if I upgraded?

Flashing does not need unlocked bootloader. Warranty may or may not be void, depends on if the ROM is for your SI number or not.

Also dependent on region. In the UK, flashing firmware, even if custom, does NOT void your warranty.

It won't be my SI no. since. ICS has not been released on my handset UK ends with 0728. So again will it void the warranty

What UK law states is that if you modify your devices FIRWARE, only the software warranty is broken. Most manufacturers do not provide a warranty on software anyway. Its only if you modifications break the hardware, i.e. overclocking causing overheating, that voids the warranty. So if you had a custom ROM, and your screen failed, and it had nothing to do with the software, the hardware warranty is still valid because the fault would have happened anyway.

No problem.

I managed to return a phone after 4 months to Vodafone, after flashing several ROMs, then it developed a Camera problem, so I took it back and got £110 back on the spot
