Mobile BRAVIA Engine NOT Working on any ICS.

Bought Xperia Acro S today. It was a very good phone, well satisfied with it. Not until I installed Quickpic (3rd party picture viewer). And to my surprise, the pics from the Album app and Quickpic are exactly the same in terms of color saturation, noise and contrast! WHY is that SONY?

I have had Xperia ARC and RAY for a year or so, then sold the ARC because of the "CRACK" near the sensor. Got Samsung GSII with a horrible screen which I dont wanna look at, then sold it after 3 days and made me go back to SONY. But til this time after reading several comments, a lot of people noticed that the mBE is not working and Sony is not giving any CLEAR answer or solution for the issue.

I had about 20 SE phones and this is the first real Sony phone I have, please don't disappoint me. Any moderator or Sony Exec, please give me a reasonable answer for this query.

why wont any Xperia S owners post their comments and queries here? So that Sony would hear us? Some users said that mBE is working fine on Gingerbread, my phone came out with ICS on board and I was unable to experience BE on my Acro S the way I did on ARC and RAY

Let us make Sony hear us and work on a FIX for this annoying issue. BE is the reason why I bought this phone, yet I cant even take advantage of it!

the Bravia Engine applies to the whole UI of the phone, so whether you use 3rd party apps the effects is still perceived.

to see the difference try to use other phones that does not have the BE but with simillar display.

Hello sparda0!

Its odd to hear that MBE ain't working in Acro S too (with ICS)! I have Xperia S for over 6 months and it had no issues whatsoever on any GB rom. But i've been having issues like Bravia Engine not working for photos (working for videos though), buggy camera quick launch etc. for last 3 months ever since the upgrade to sony ICS rom (even on the latest 6.1.A.2.45 build). I've tried everything to fix them, including repair using SUS, but to no use! Seeing the ICS bugs of Xperia S also on the newer devices like AcroS or Xperia Ion (has the quick lauch bug) makes me wonder wth is going on with sony developer team :smileyangry:?

I appreciate your feedback but that is not the case. i have used 3 xperia phones with mBE, Neo, Ray, and Arc the latter having ICS software installed. mBE does make a very good job in making pics and vids more vibrant and pleasing to the eyes. I definitely know how it works and i am so meticulous when it comes to display quality that is why i sold the Galaxy SII after two days of use. I know and I am sure that it only works with the built in photo and video apps. as the system framework suggest "be_album and be_movies". it does not work on the entire UI layout.

I am still waiting for a SONy rep to give a clear explanation on this, which I believe a Sony fanatic deserve. I have about 18 SONY gadgets with me, and I am not happy with this mBE not working on a device I bought because of this screen technology.

P.S. so, if the Bravia engine is only applicable to the gallery/video player. if I make a photo/image as a wallpaper , the bravia engine won't "enhance the it?

Same issue, Xperia S.. This is incredibly frustrating. I've been a diehard Sony Ericsson fan throughout it's span, and I moved to Sony, but I must say that Sony has been really disappointing with their policies and customer support. Xperia S is a flagship model, right? And Bravia engine is supposed to be an exclusive and key feature of their series. They should've fixed it in a couple of days when the bug was discovered - and instead we find ourselves waiting for months with NO ANSWER/COMMENT, let alone a fix!

hi there,

why does it says ASSUMED answered? sorry but i am new to this forum and this is my first post because it is really a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for a Sony Fanboy like me and for all others out there like Hasaan for this KEY feature not working on a FLAGSHIP model!

where is Sony or any of its representatives to address this issue? I mean, even without the mBE the 720p screen looks gorgeous compared to say for example 2011 xperia line up or galaxy sII but we deserve more! especially this is the main reason why I bought xperia Acro S despite of its price.

ive had neo, ray, and arc for the last year. and i have seen how mBE worked with ray and arc on ICS. what is going on Sony?

am i going to start doubting the company i believed into for several years? from trinitron, discman, walkman, memory stick, psone, ps2, psp3000, pspGO, m2 micro, TWENTY SE phones, usb microvault, mdr ex85, 60, 80, and 310SLB, w-series cybershot, fontopia, card reader, dream alarm clock, 5.1 channel dvd home theater, micro component and my gosh even SONY LCD CLEANER and ACCUcore DVD disk I owned, you are not going to respond to my concern?

Please note - Xperia S also has the same issue!

& Please do come back with a positive reply - like an update on the possible fix; don't say something like "We - at Sony - tested the BRAVIA Engine and found it to be working fine on ICS" because that would be so wrong

Some of you have noticed your threads get marked as 'assumed answered' even though there might not be a solution/answer provided. Keep reading if you want to know why.

Me and my colleagues in the Sony Xperia support team get a list several times a day. This list is called "Email Alert for Unanswered Discussion Questions".

As the name might hint, it contains a list with threads that are unanswered.

All threads that are marked as a question when created ends up in this list if not already answered within 10 hours.

In order for us to get a good overview of the Support Forum we click on 'Assumed Answered' as soon as we have posted a comment, even if it's not really answered. The creator of the thread can then either keep it that way, confirm or deny it.

Either way, we automatically subscribe to all threads we post in, meaning we will get a notification for each new post in every single thread we attend so no post should be missed.

We can also choose to subscribe manually to a thread after marking it as assumed answered (we do this if good answers have been provided by other users already).

now i understand..

going back, any answers regarding mBE not working on pictures? it works on videos even on a third party player like MX Video (HW or HW+ decoding). what about pictures?

Hasaan is correct with Quickpic having this hardware accelerated feature already, which actually gives us a MORE SOLID proof that mBE is not working with pictures.

you managed to make it work on 2011 lineup ICS, how come you cant do it with 2012?

with 2011 lineup, it works only with XPERIA GALLERY, which is Android's 3D Gallery since it came out, if that will make mBE work with 2012, why dont you just guys give it to us? I could definitey care less without the ALBUM app if mBE is not working.

still hoping for a quick solution.

if others with XPERIA 2012 on ICS doesn't care that mBE is not working, well not us! Make it work because this is the MAIN reason why I bought this phone as you well know, other than the CAMERA, SPEAKER, DESIGN, DISPLAY and BRAND, hardware wise (RAM, CPU, GPU) Galaxy SII is still superior than XS or ACRO s.

i am checking this post twice every 60 minutes hoping to find an answer to this query. and it seems much like Apple, Sony and any other electronic giants out there will not learn how to admit or acknowledge their shortcomings.

any of you sony representatives why don't you post your comments here if you are not guilty admiting that a the feature that you well advertised to sell such an expensive phone IS NOT WORKING?!!

every time i do not see any response, i just felt like being ignored. and its very frustrating.

do we have to beg to get what we already paid for?

hi there johan,

i have seen your post. but how long does it take for you to get information on this? just wondering, do xperia support representatives have their respective superiors? like supervisors or managers that can answer questions?

try to put yourself in my situation. spending almost $600.00 hard earned cash and to find out that you bought something that is not working the moment it turned on.

if it will work on the previous xperia gallery, why dont you just give us the file or include it on a software update? it will not hurt if you will include both album and xperia gallery.

album app is a looker, but if it make the display quality crippled, using the xperia gallery will do the job despite of its aging looks.

My colleague just had a problem with the Samsung SIII 3 days back. The issue was his motherboard got corrupted, he just emailed to the support ONLY ONCE!!! The support infact guys called my friend, a guy from the samsung came to our office, and collected the phone from our office. They checked the phone asked him whether he wants complete piece replacement or new motherboard and screen would do? He opted for a complete new mobile and it was delivered within 2 days. COMPLETE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SERVICE>>>>> WORTH EACH PENNY YOU HAVE PAID...!

no offense or hard feelings, but ever since i came up with this thread, i have noticed that Sony representatives CAN'T answer a BASIC and SIMPLE query.

well of course, THANK YOU for saying, "Let me investigate this, I will get back to you.", and for copy and pasting an explanation about "ASSUMED answered" questions.

believe me, I am not being sarcastic here, but man, its just a plain question "Why is mBE not working after ICS update"? is it really that difficult or you are just playing around with us trying to be conservative not to say anything that will create a HUGE disappointment to your consumers and potential buyers?

CANT YOU GUYS ANSWER A SIMPLE QUESTION (from an ACRO s owner)? WHY IS mBE NOT WORKING OUT OF THE BOX?!!

I don't hope they have any solution to this bug/issue with bravia engine not working for photos on ICS, so they will neither acknowledge it nor provide us with any answer/solution. This issue is similar to the camera quick launch issue & and stay awake bug on the sony ICS (on Xperia S) for which they seem to be completely clueless! It is noteworthy that all these issues are software related and only limited to all sony ICS roms and not present in any GB rom. And also, these issues are not only limited to Xperia S but also there in the latest devices like Ion, Acro S, even Xperia T.
