Why does GPS force 'anonymous data usage'?

I have Xperia S and tried to use the GPS but it won't allow me to turn it on unless I agree for anonymous data to be transmitted when I use it. Why do I have to do this? On my previous phone (HTC Desire) I did not have to do this. I do not want to use up my data allowance for something of no benefit to me. Also, I travel abroad a lot and use gps to find my way around. I normally download the map first in either UK or hotel Wifi but I do not want to have to send data when abroad as it will cost a fortune. Why can't I just have GPS???

anononymous data is sent to get your current location..

when you download a map through wifi , it stays in your phone and you access them offline..??

because i dont think you can get your current location without sending anonymous data even after you have downloaded the maps through wifi..

i think its done in order to aware customers that while using gps and even the AGPS , data charges may apply due to data transfer through network carrier when there is no wifi

Solution is to switch off data traffic {( settings> wireless and network >mobile network > uncheck data enabled .... alternatively, on home screen, data traffic widget performs the same function)}

You can use gps but no data transfer would take place .

If wifi is available, data transmission would take place through it, otherwise not

Take care to switch off your gps and wireless network options before switching on data traffic (settings> location and security> unmark "use wireless and networks" and "use GPS satellites" )
